Hi, I have a 290 cupra 2016 (no OPF) with a vagsport resdelete but I now want more sound (and better).

I already have some drone around 3000rpm and I can live with it but I don’t want more (less would be even better).

I’d like to get your opinion on the setup that would best suit my goal. Best sound with least drone.

I’m leaning toward a custom catback with valves (car is stock, and OEM DP) but I would appreciate advice on:

- diameter of the pipe (OEM or bigger, seen milltek setup at 76mm)
- resonator delete or muffler delete (valves will be on the remaining part) to get the best sound with limited drone

Thanks !

76mm is the staple for up to stage 2, you should consider a 80 downpipe/76 cat back if you plan on going stage 3.
Don't go for a muffler delete, you could end up with more drone.
I'd recommend keeping the res delete and fitting a 76mm catback with a valved rear muffler.

Who makes valved exhausts for the Leon? I’ve not seen any but I’ve not specifically looked either.

valved would be ideal to keep it quiet when the Mrs is doing the school run and then a bit louder at the weekend.

Im not planning on going stage 2, maybe stage 1 but that’s all. The guy making the exhaust told me he would keep the OEM diameter except if I have a downpipe or specifically ask for a 76mm diameter. Do you think it would affect sound a lot ? (OEM diameter vs 76mm with stock downpipe)

and yes the setup he proposed was catback with res delete and valved sport muffler

I've no idea, I was referring to a custom valved rear muffer.

If you went for a complete turbo back exhaust the 76mm over the stock 65mm would sound more "full" or more powerful so to speak. That's at least what I've noticed and the higher the rpms the louder it would sound. So here the valved rear muffler comes in, if it's unbearable, you could always keep the valves closed. So fitting a 76mm catback over the (70mm?) res delete you now have, it would sound a bit louder even though the pipe isn't much bigger it's still a decent increase in volume. IMHO it's better to go bigger and if it's too much you always have the option to fit a resonator.

In my case when I went stage 3 I already had a GPF-back 76mm milltek exhaust (non res), and fitted a 80mm downpipe with a high flowing sports HJS cat, it sounded like a freaking truck! It was unbearable to me so I went back to the shop and had a resonator fitted, the biggest I could get, problem solved (y)

I believe it all comes down to personal preference and the best you can do is find someone with the setup you want and listen to it, even if it's from a youtube video.
