Quick update on getting both back boxes opened up and gutted on my mk7.5 golf estate
Fabricators done a fantastic job welds are excellent can’t tell the exhaust has been modified
But there is zero noise difference not even on cold start or higher up the revs no dsg fart nothing!! so just goes to show the gpf are obviously silencing all the noise
That’s unlucky that !!

Seems there is a real difference in how exhausts sound between cars.

I’ve got the R ST, obviously with GPF and get DSG farts, overrun crackles/pops and the occasional bang.
Not too over the top but I’m fine with that.
It’s obviously dependent on how it’s driven though.
Needs to be in Cupra/Sports engine & S gearbox.
DSG ‘fart’ will only occur if on WOT.
The rest occur when slowing down through the gears, but are easily replicated in manual mode by accelerating to 3.5k rpm or above and letting off, or changing down through the gears manually yourself.

Hi there!
I've been reading this thread and I hope someone can answer my question.
My previous car was a Golf GTI with the Clubsport S muffler mod so changing cars to a standard Cupra ST 4Drive (2017, no OPF) was a setback in terms of exhaust sound. I really like this mod so I want to change the standard exhaust for the Golf R Variant model.

While looking for the right parts I found these back-boxes for the new Golf 8 R Variant, the part numbers don't match with the Golf 7 model, but on the pictures they look identically to the Golf 7 model, but much cheaper, available and I like the look of the exhaust tips.

So my question is: does anyone know if this will fit my Cupra?
I think I will need to cut the exhaust to make it fit to the resonator but other than that?

I doubt those fit at all - the chassis dimensions for the MQB-EVO platform are quite different.

I'd also not go off of the picture on that listing as being what the actual product looks like. Its probably just a stock photo they've used as its a similar platform.

Is your car OPF or non-OPF?
It is ok to have Res delete with OPF, but as you found out, without is bit too loud
I Have OPF, this exactly

second picture is cut out from rear silencers

Wait... You removed that section that is on the second pic???
The OPF is still on car :D the rear silencer are straight piped :D the first option was to remove the damping wadding, but I went the route of completely taking everything off.... Only it's a bit noisier inside the car, I'd need to adjust it

So letting the Mk8 idea go, I finally found a Mk7.5 variant muffler axle-back. It came from an OPF equipped car.
I've read this whole thread and did not find information this muffler will fit my Cupra (2017, no OPF), and if these backboxes are different from the mk 7.5 no OPF version, because I'm looking for the improvement in sound these offer.

Anyone who can help me on this?

The only difference there should be that the non-OPF version won't have a mid resonator and as such will be a little bit more louder and pop & bang more.

Worst case scenario, you just need to saw it in a different place to fit your car, but I strongly doubt that.

Thanks for your quick reply.
I'm planning to keep my resonator, so I will need to cut it somewhere to get it fitted but that's fine to me.

I just got the information that the number stamped on the exhaust I'm looking at is 5Q5253611AM, which is the same as the ST Cupra Carbon version (with resonator), I'm happy with the soundclips of that car on Youtube as that should be the same for my Cupra.

That might be the number for the backbox only.

Of course it is possible to cut the resonator from your original exhaust to put to the new one and then add a few sleeves/brackets to hold it all together.

Found it 2nd hand eventually. I don't know where you live (I'm from The Netherlands) but it's pretty hard to find these. However you can buy them new for around 1200 EURO's, if you really want it. I decided to wait and search for 2nd hand.
