Not all 7.5R have OPF fitted though, only those made after a certain date which was some time in the 2nd half of 2018.
Hey guys recently fitted 2 rear boxes from a 7.5 R estate, ive studied this thread long and hard and possibly later today will be cutting them open to view internals and see if a more direct un-baffled route can be made. After watching and reading previous owners fitting the same exhaust i thought why not try it out as a cheaper option to an opf back system. They look great with gloss black tips but still the noise is very muffled, only just can you hear pops on overrun and only just can you get the occasional dsg fart way up the revs in lower gears, being my first dsg i just have to have some exhaust queefs if i do cut them open ill be sure to take pics and document it all cheers for all the very helpfull info!!

Thanks about to head to the garage to begin so ill need luck haha as i don't want it too loud with a kid on the way also haha ipurchased a full opf back system but due to postage had to get the boxes cut off and sent and i painted the tips myselfGood luck will be interesting to see inside. Did you buy the exhaust with the black tips? Or paint them yourself?

Almost, but not quite correctFound a YouTube video with a sound comparison between a Seat Leon Cupra ST and a Seat Leon Cupra R ST (both with GPFs):
The Cupra R ST has the exhaust from the Golf R Variant (Estate) Mk. 7.5.
Not quite sure, but I thought the Golf R Variant/Estate Mk. 7.5 with the GPFs shares the exhaust with the Cupra R ST. Isn't that correct?Almost, but not quite correct
...the mk7.5 exhaust is non-GPF and has a middle resonator, while the Cupra R is a GPF car and has no middle resonator.
You can look up a video I posted earlier of the correct exhaust sound on a Golf R estate.
Sorry @Jaco2k, not sure if you're specifically talking about what's been swapped in the video, but there are 2 versions of each of the exhausts:Almost, but not quite correct

None of the Golf R Estate exhausts (Mk 7 and 7.5) have a valve. Its only the hatch. Not quite sure, but I thought the Golf R Variant/Estate Mk. 7.5 with the GPFs shares the exhaust with the Cupra R ST. Isn't that correct?
I thought that the difference between the pre GPFs and after GPFs was that the first has valves plus a middle section with resonator and the second not.
The end tips are different though, on the Golf they are chrome, on the Cupra R ST they are black, I thought that the tips are connected in a different way too.
@Novus post #221 on this thread is an OPF Cupra ST with the Golf R/Cupra RST exhaust - ie what you should have as standard. For the majority on this thread this was enough of a change.Hi guys
First post here
you all seam to be aiming for the same thing as me regarding exhaust noise
I have 2019 plate golf r estate with gpf filters fitted…now the noise from the exhaust is very poor compared to none gpf cars I want to keep the car completely oem looking so my plan is to open both back boxes up and remove the chamber’s but my question is has anyone done this to a car with gpfs??
obviously there’s no resonator in my mid pipe
So would I get a lot of drone ?
and how loud can I expect it to be
I have been searching the web YouTube etc for weeks but it’s either a complete back box delete (I don’t want that)
or it’s in a hatch everyone does it to
This is the school run/family car so don’t want an asbo exhaust just a bit of grunt with little or no drone if possible
So if anyone has done this can you tell me your thoughts and experience
Hope someone can help me!
Thanks
Thanks so much for your reply really appreciate your help mate@Novus post #221 on this thread is an OPF Cupra ST with the Golf R/Cupra RST exhaust - ie what you should have as standard. For the majority on this thread this was enough of a change.
@20vturbocupra posts above show an OPF vehicle with the rear boxes gutted, so should be able to give you the information that you require.
Not sure about the Golf R, but the hatch 290 Cupra has a single OPF and a resonator which most people remove, where as the Cupra ST/Golf R Estate have a dual, side-by-side OPF and no resonator as you are already aware.
For your awareness, the Copper badged Cupras with 7 spd DSG will be the ones with OPFs fitted if you are trawling through the pages on this thread.
I took my Carbon R quad exhaust (same as the Golf R) that was fitted to my 300 4Drive ST and have fitted it to my 290 ST Black 2016.Hmmm interesting!

Either that or they've done nothing and that's the reason the welds look that good lolQuick update on getting both back boxes opened up and gutted on my mk7.5 golf estate
Fabricators done a fantastic job welds are excellent can’t tell the exhaust has been modified
But there is zero noise difference not even on cold start or higher up the revs no dsg fart nothing!! so just goes to show the gpf are obviously silencing all the noise
