Cupra 280 vs a45, What modifications will I need?

So, my friend got an a45 and I want to outdo the a45...

It's a tall order I know but what modifications and remap "stage" do you think will let me pull on him in a rolling start from 30?

I know some of you guys are sitting at pretty high outputs and I don't want to go too high that I can't get the power down... how are you guys coping at 400hp?

To outdo I’d imagine you’ll at least need the same power I think they’re 360bhp? As the leon I’d imagine without the 4wd would be a tad trimmer.

Although you could just take him to the track and show its worth there.

So you think just a stage 1 map would do it then with some ps4 tyres?

Dying to get it round knockhill but the insurance excesses scare me away sadly, I'm a more than competent karter but those are much cheaper if you bin them on the track haha!

Stage one should give you 370 bhp and if you have the DGS Map as well you get to enjoy it even more. Tires make a big difference, and engine/trans mount upgrades are cheap and make a big difference.

also check out http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showpost.php?p=4749817&postcount=10 as it does point out in the lower to mid range you make up for lack of 4wd by having a lighter car which comes across well on the track.

Depends on who does it and what mods you have, not sure how much a stage one really gains but I’m assuming you would see around 330 at least.

Typically the air boxes are usually better than the aftermarket ones but aside from expensive mods like a better turbo the exhaust is definitely a good place for gains.

I know on my s3 that a 3” downpipe and possibly an illegal cat removal then a stage one was the way to go.

Where are you based? I used a guy in Glasgow for my CR170 last year and aside from his insane amount of knowledge, he was pretty cheap and dynos every car before and after each map with a printout.

370 from a stage one? That’s insane, but I guess 10% is usually to be expected.

Well if you go down the exhaust route you would smoke the a45 everywhere unless he goes for a stage one also...

I've read stage 1 from revo can see up to 370 which is phenomenal but hard to believe!

I'm getting a milltek non res cat back system at some point hopefully but a remap would have to wait if I get a full system I think

I'm based in Dundee so Glasgow isn't too far I was eyeing up a revo or Apr map but not sure where does it close by, New to modding cars if u can't tell haha

Never done a rolling road but I can tell you once i had the map done the power difference was amazing and the stock car was not slow.

I think the difference between Stage 1 and 2 is not bhp its torque and the curve of that power.

Lastly all I can say is there are a number of Audi S3's and Golf R that do not understand why they are behind me and not in front of me (even more smiles)

If you search Martin auto clinic on Facebook you’ll find the guy I used, puts loads up and will happily let you know what to expect and how much you’d be.

The true modding nowadays is all paid for anyway, expensive turbo set ups and remaps etc but there’s plenty guys to keep you right on here. One things for sure is that you’ll smile from ear to ear for about a week or so after getting it mapped.

Saying that the standard car for me has seen multiple s3's in the rear view mirror and a new wrx sti but I've heard they are quite heavy!

I am still smiling a year after the map done, and if you drive it like a family car you can even get a reasonable mpg (not that it happens very often)

I still enjoy mine but I’ve only got Just over 200, a year down the line but it was just my way of making sure I kept it longer, was in the terrible habit of only keeping a car for less than 6 months, had it for 2 years now.

Even when mine was standard, an A45 AMG only just pulled away from me, if that was par for the course, now it's remapped (the only power mod) then the Cupra would walk away from it. As a comparison, my car with "only 350 bhp" is exactly neck and neck with a 400 bhp M135i. I always get people asking me on trackdays what on earth I've done to the car to make it so quick.

Re track, with PS4S tyres, you would have to drive like a right plonker to bin it, the car is very predictable and sorted on track.

On a long commute, I can get 37 mpg driving normally with some fun, 33 mpg with mixed driving and more sustained fun and 23 mpg for fun only driving.
