So are they saying ever 1000odd miles this thing needs regening?

No, aslong as you give the car a drive at high(ish) rev's for about 20 minutes every now and then it should be fine, what's suprised me is how quickly the problem went from "you need to go for a regen run" to "you're not going anywhere"

i'm also concerned that when they updated me yesterday they said "it looks like your car's producing too much soot" but this has now subtley been dropped in favour of "you syhould've done a regen run sooner"

i'll be having words with them this arvo when i pick it up.

Whats so special about this new engine anyway?
dunno, but i just love it when the turbo kicks in, and the fact that, due to it being in band B for road tax purposes, i won't have to pay for my residents parking permit when they intorduce the scheme on the roads near my house.

Quite looking forward to the firt time i have to say, "sorry i'm late, i had to take my car for a good thrashing else it'd breakdown"

in this modern age though surely you want the dealers/garage/specialists to service and maintain your car though

bentley owners (W12) get a leather clad oil bottle in the boot now ;) if i spent that much cash on a car i'd never expect to lift a bonnet up at all to be honest

you need to drive it about 35 to 45 mph at about 2000 rpm for about 20 min when dpf light is on if not you will kill the dpf filter cost about 1500 quid

Yeah, i was planning on doing so the night the light came on, but i did 10 miles round town before i had a chance but even that was too much of a delay.

When they do a DPF regen at the dealership there's no need for them to actually drive my car is there? they just connect the car to the laptop and sue a computer program to control the engine to do the regen? i thought?

only ask as when my car was picked up by the AA it had 1416 miles on it, the dealership is 13 miles away (according to the trip computer on the way back from there) though i think i got towed a slighty longer route, so i'll say 20 miles there.

that's 33 miles, so my total miles SHOULD be 1451 or there abouts, except, it's actually 1472, and i can't think of any other reason for there to be 20 missing miles other than one of the monkeys at the dealership has taken my car out for a razz?

no dealer has to do regen like you do' they need to drive your car with the vag machine so thay can force regen. they did this to mine and all ok :funk:

all sorted, not had any more issues with it yet, it had a run down to peterborough and back the other day so it's definitely clear now.

still only getting 44-46mpg on a good run, and around 35-38 round town though, no matter how carefully i try and drive it, it's been carefully run in, it's done 2000 miles. Would've thought it'd be getting better than that by now?

oh yes, i do love the turbo :) reminds me of being younger, being taken out for a spin in my old man's sierra cosworth and that almighty surge forward as the boost comes on.

can't see myself getting bored of it anytime soon... perhaps when the mpg starts going up i know i'm bored of it
