I've just called my local euro car parts to order a new coolant temp sensor and they say they have two listed. I told them I wanted the improved green sensor, but that didn't mean a lot to them.

Does anyone know the correct part number for a 2005 Ibiza cupra tdi?

I bought one of these on eBay yesterday for about £6, I think the 2 types are two pin and four pin regardless of colour.

Now i'm even more confused! How do i know which one i have other than taking the original one out?

Not sure you can mate! I ended up taking mine out and having a look. It's only a 5 minute job, take you engine cover off, take the horseshoe clip off and it just pulls straight out. You might want to get a bucket out to catch the coolant with or it'll just spill everywhere haha

Two ways to get the correct part I'd reckon, (1) go to a VAG dealer with your engine code and age, or (2) unplug the connector from your one and see if it is a two wire or what. Originally the colour change would have depicted if what was currently fitted was the original (all were black) or some other colour, for instance green. Now it seems that VAG are back to black with probably a part number change. VAG dealers will only ever stock the latest version, some of the ebay examples will be genuine NOS - ie, older versions that VAG has funded the dealers to dispose of.
