sorry to bring this thread up but if anyone has any pics of the following problems/ parts can you stick them up for me:

Rear washer leaking (inside the boot of the hose)
VAC Hose leak (of just the hose, or a leak..not sure where this is)
Boot lid rust
MAF (pic of the maf)
Standard DV (split or just a pic of it in the engine bay)
coolant temp sensor ( a pic of it in the engine bay)
Badly protected CPU (pic of it, mines wrapped up)
n75 (pic in engine bay)
exterior temp sensor

Any of the above would help massively

Cheers

The majority of these could be taken in about 5 min walking around the car if you had a camera?

Rear washer leaking (inside the boot of the hose) -- It's 2 seconds to take off the boot lid fascia (see my boot not locking thread - There's also some pics in there too)
VAC Hose leak (of just the hose, or a leak..not sure where this is) -- This could be any vacuum hose
Boot lid rust -- Suppose you need to have rust to take a pic of it
MAF (pic of the maf) -- Open the bonnet it's right there. Or here's a pic of a maf not in a car
Standard DV (split or just a pic of it in the engine bay) -- Again there's one in your car
coolant temp sensor ( a pic of it in the engine bay) -- It's in plain sight should be easy to take a pic of
Badly protected CPU (pic of it, mines wrapped up) -- This is a bit harder I suppose
n75 (pic in engine bay) -- Again as coolant sensor/DV
exterior temp sensor -- Take a pic of the passenger wing mirror

haha yeah, doesnt sound great but its not actually on cars, im doing a multimedia course so the dissertation is marked on the process & a build of some sort, mine being in flash, i could have done it on dyslexic kids & known nothing about dyslexia ...thats not the point...

I do know a fair bit about cars, just have major gaps in my knowledge because of a hands off approach (left it to the garage to do the work, but thats going to change, part of the reason why im creating this build....to help people like me know what they are doing, save money by problem solving & doing services themself....e.g. i know what a maf is..just not what it looks like or where....not exactly tough to find out is it

a maf is an example, i know where that is...but never fiddled with VAC hoses/coolant temp sensors & n75, and i'd rather not take a guess & get it wrong...and there is no haynes manual for our car out there for me to find out...

cupra elliot - why is it the worst topic ever btw?

can i be nosey and ask what the topic for your dissertation is? and the course title?

reason i ask is alot of students under estimate the importance of the final year project, I myself had to redo mine and thus didnt graduate till the following year due to lazyness on my part

not saying i think what your doing is a poor choice as i have no idea what your up too, just intrieged

my course title is Multimedia Communication systems, the hypothesis of the dissertation goes something like this: "can a multi-modal vehicle specific software program aid with car maintenance and improve the users understanding"

The dissertation is going to be around 12,000 words..

The flash build itself will contain the main common issues for the seat ibiza cupra (possibly how to replace certain parts e.g. MAF, N75, the servicing schedule includes use of video guides, audio (downloadable to mp3 player whilst working on the car) & the usual images & text (like a haynes manual) to help assist users with all the BASIC servicing. Covering spark plug change, oil filter with oil change, fuel filter change, air filter change.. The program is a prototype so it doesnt have to be complete (e.g.cambelt will not be covered)

Using the DSDM methodology with RAD (Rapid Application Development) principles & the use of MoSCoW & timeboxing it will be an iterative approach, if I get time my final iteration will include maintenance checks as well e.g. checking brake pads/discs wear etc... all that rubbish

The lit review has research on topics such as multimedia, learning systems etc..

tell me what you think mate..

aye sounds like theres alot of scope there fella. I'm a RAD fanatic although with software design/development its hard not to be iterative unless your initial concept is the dogs bollocks or the target client is easy to satisfy.

your concept sounds pretty good, like an FAQ (as you state like a haynes manual in digital form) the only concern would be the quantity of information your storing. e.g. are we keeping it to the basics? so size is relatively small and development time is kept to a minimum or do we aim to hold the same quantity of information that a haynes manual would and therefore is a large database required? What I would say is remember your project is demonstrating te skills you've acquired on your course and not what you've learnt about your car.

For my first attempt I produced a quotation application for a car insurance company written in C++. there was way too much scope and not enough information from insurance companies available. Also my C++ knowledge wasnt great. my 2nd attempt i kept it simple, Database management system for an estate agents developed in VB and i passed flying colours (although i was capped).

good luck with it dude

my actual programming skills are pretty rubbish so i'm aiming to keep it fairly simple (also the reason i chose flash over Visual basic etc..), cheers for the advice, i'll keep that in mind...hopefully it's good enough for a 2:1 but like you say its fairly basic...

It wont be as complex as a haynes manal naturally as that would take a very long time to create, its more focused on basic servicing that is required to maintain the car & common issues that aren't the easiest to find out about
