Window motor cables snapping. (cables snap and wrap around motor seizing everything and locking the window in whatever position its in at the time) Solution, buy and fit new window motor/regulator - around £120 fitted at local garage

Water getting in to the ECU. (Water creeps in to the eco causing all manor of electrical issues) Solution, try drying it out. Possibly source, fit and recode another ecu.

Standard DV splitting/fail. (Plastic DV housing splits causing boost leak) Solution, replace with suitable metal DV.

Standard vac hoses perishing. (Hoses spilt and crack causing boost leak) Solution, replace with silicone hoses.

Brake servo hose cracking. (Known recall issue - not too sure on the details but i hear you loose braking power) Solution, take back to dealership for free repair.

Poor Quality Paintwork. (Laquar peeling and paint fading) Solution, full respray.

Creaking Dash (Very annoying creaking noisy dash) Solution, strip it all out and bodge whatevers noisy.

Worth mentioning that many of the issues are common across the Vag group, incase that wasn't already clear.

What qualification will we achieve if we write the rest for you? ;-)

...and whats the title!

im creating a build in flash for new car owners...the idea is to create a prototype program which includes features such as common issues, service schedules & step by step guides on how to service.

havent actually made a hypothesis yet...but something along the lines of " can an intuitive model based software program help car owners maintain their car"...

Is that all the common issues everyone knows?? thanks for the help...

Sounds good! Link it to existing databases (Ross-tech site, forum search results) and you'll have a really useful resource. Best of luck.

p.s. search for the Troubleshooting guide on here, it pretty much covers the logic behind all the common faults.

Rear wiper problems, i.e. pump or pipe disconnecting and leaking in boot door/engine bay?

Need to check this out at the weekend too!

Plastic water pump impeller failure ( dont think this was mentioned above?)

And I'll list what my car has failed on (in my time or previous to my knowledge)

  • Coolant Temp sensor -- £22 from dealer, DIY replacement
  • Sticky Thermostat -- £13? (I think I'll get the receipt out) from dealer, DIY replacement
  • Snapped Clutch Pedal (previous owner) -- £??
  • Replaced plastic with metal impeller water pump (before pump failure) £??
  • Boot not locking - caused by sticky solenoid -- £2, WD40 and a hammer (see my post in FAQ section)
  • Rear washer pipe disconnecting in boot -- £free, just annoying!

top mount bearings obliterate after a while too, seen a few threads on them now

i know its not perfomance related - but the inside door handle units peel like mad - on almost every car iv seen!

exterior temp sensors went in both of mine - easy fix
