So if it is the Cam Chain tensioner, does this need to be replaced asap? It only does it for 1-2 secs on very cold mornings. Otherwise its ok.

I went out to my car prepared to take a video and of course it didnt make any tapping sounds at all, might be the fact that its 8 degrees out and not minus 2...

That sounds like mine, it will only do if its cold outside like minus 1-2 or if its been super cold over night.

You don't need to it asap mInes been lIke it fir about 4 months now when it starts doing it for 5-10 seconds you need to get it done ;) it properly only happens in the cold as the oil is thicker and can't circulate properly to start with ;)

No you dont need to rush into it, mine did it for two and a half years, but then suddenly kept doing it for a couple of minutes until i stopped the engine and restarted it so i knew it was time for the change, bare in mind they are over £300 i bought mine from the states for half that delivered, quite easy to do you just need to make sure all the timing in lined up.

Ok thats a relief, thanks for your help guys, I guess I'll get saving then. ;-).

Torred1771 get some videos up so we hear what your one sounds like. It took me a week to capture mine on video, I just went out every morning lifted the bonnet up and filmed my car starting until it made that noise. My neighbours must think I'm weird!

its been too warm lately for it to do it, ive tried lol, plus the longer it sits without being driven makes it do it as well, driven it everyday this week so far..sometimes it can go 4-5 days without being driven and that plus cold temps is when it tends to do it worse
