Due to knocking and iffy steering, im wanting to replace my front wishbones and ball joints.

I was just wondering if this is a DIY job? I have a few hours spare on saturday and wouldnt mind doing them myself if its not too hard.

Cheers!

Cheers Dave, im picking up the new ones (bushes already pressed in) with ball joints tomorrow, did you attach the ball joint to the wishbone before you fitted it?

Also, did you need to remove the brake calliper and disc? or can you leave them on?

Cheers for the advice guys, I have a few hours free on Saturday so going to give it a go.

Taking its going to be pretty self explanatory, but hoping my limited mechanical knowledge will suffice! lol

Ive got the same problem with my steering - had Seat look at it twice - and asked some engineers and a steering specialist place, all said its my steering rack.

Seat quote £950
Specialist quote £250

For those of you that have changed the ball joints, how did you tighten the ball joint onto the base of the hub? The top half of the balljoint is just spinning and the shape of the hub prevents you getting an allan key in the top of the thread :s

hi m8 use a bottle jack or a small trolley jack and jack up under the balljoint so it presses the tapered bit into the hub and it will undo using penetrating oil will help lol also check your tracking after you have fitted the new 1 as it will more than likely be out.

Thanks, I worked that out in the end, just finished a mission 11hour session changing the front top mounts, shocks, springs, wishbones and drop links... Will definitely be getting the geo done, I like my tyres and dont like self centering steering...
