Hi all.

I was over at the mans place.

He tells me he is having trouble creating the hooks that slot into the base of the mirror.

They are fragile and in CF/Fibreglass its a pain in the ass to make.

He says its not worth all the work.

But... i havent given up.

I am getting another guy here who fixes boats to get them done.

I am going to buy 2 new covers at SEAT thjis week to get another guy cracking....

I have also wondered myself if its not easier to get them from SEAT and only get the front coated with a thin sheet of CF ??

What you say folks... ?

That way they fit 100% and also have a perfect finishing...

Hi guys...check this out...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEAT-LEON-IBI...yZ100918QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Found these on ebay and they look like they could be a straight swap click in fit for the original OEM covers... obviously I’m not 100% sure if they are, as it isn't described fully so I have emailed the seller (who's in Greece) and have also asked if he would consider a group buy.

Will post an update when I get a reply

Thats probably the guy that mine came from.

I know the previous owner got them from ebay.

But refused to give me the link and used the excuse of selling the car for his sudden dissapearence...

I am glad you have sourced them...

He mentioned 100 Euros so i guess its the same fellow...

MDS, that guy sold me mine 6 months ago and the clips never worked!!!!!! Broke instantly!

Sticking them on is the only way, unless you some how get a perfect fit set!

£100 for mirror covers is a lot of money. I would expect something in the region of 30-40 quid for me to buy a set.

Well thats the thing, i thought the clips would work but unfortunately carbon fibre and fibre glass dont hold well under tension clips... so snap off near instantly....

They are worth the money IF the clips worked!

So I got a reply....

...Hi
These covers replce the original plastic part but you have to glue them on the main body of the mirror. We can made for you some clips like the OEM part but you have to glue them on the carbon cover. If you want send your email address and we'll send you back o photo of the clips.
Thanks for asking
SOFOScarbon Team

So I'm guessing that they have to make clips that are then just stuck on with a strong adhiesive to transfer it into a clip on part....

...MDS - couldn't your friend who was having problems making the clips maybe make it out of a different material i.e ABS Plastic and then stick them on to the CF cover?

£100 is alot especially if they are just covers without hooks, gonna email him again and ask about a price for a group buy and get the pics of clips and post them on here if that will help.

Reply...

Unfortunately we can't glue the clips on the right position without the main body of the mirror.
We will send some clips in case you want to try glue them on carbon part.
About group buy there is a discount 15% for 10 items.

....maybe the clips are pretty usless and 15% isn't all that great on the expensive £100 covers. Starting to lose faith in these as I can think of better ways to spend this money.

MDS what was the guy that was making them going to charge for a pair?

They could be James, the greek guy made clips on mine, but as i said, mine didnt fit, the other guy might had better luck with his and they fit.. the give away if its the greek guy.. the edge of the mirrors have a black paint like substance and the first 3mm of the carbon fibre, hiding the laquear and weave problems.. i sanded this off and laqueared them... i doubt the other guy did that...

Mine sort of clip in, but they're really shitty.

There are a few gaps.

I have read some posts above and i don't believe the glueing and inventing will work.

Any harder knock will break, and in motion (on a freeway for example) ... Kiss your covers goodbye.

I have got a set of covers from SEAT today, will collect in 2 hours.

I am getting the other guy to coat them... After all the look is what we want.

No necessarily any advantage in being solid carbon.

Mine are Fibreglass inside by the looks of it.

I have 1m2 original carbon fibre blanket at home and all the products for him to get moving.

I also think this way its a perfect fit...

NO MESS . NO FUSS.

If it works, maybe ill try and apply the same to other bits...

I wish i could do the same, but i think i will see if i can get hold of some one to do the proper job and mould them, the only thing i couldnt stand is stick on carbon... i would be given stick by everyone if they found out... its like the chav of chav that in essex!

This is getting to be a pipe dream by the sounds of it. Slick is right, stick on carbon is quite chavy in Essex especially, best to get the real deal.

Slick I am guessing you dont know any plastic moulding companies then?

I know about 3 actually, but it does help much... i need to speak to an injection moulder! will get onto that subject when i finish everything else outstanding... wheels, brakes, install, door cards, ice install, injectors, turbo... oh the list goes on! lol

And just when you all had me for a B*llshitter....:D

Spoken to another guy yesterday.

Another Boat maker... He says he is having them made.

the way around it all is to use OEM covers, this way the oem clips, fit and finish will be absolutely perfect.

I am getting a set coated in Carbon Fibre ate the moment.

I will keep in touch and post pics etc when i get them.

Regards to all and a Fab 2008
