Hi all,

My Leon FR turned up today and I am over the moon with it, one oddity I have noticed is that it has the adaptive cruise control sensor on the front even though I didn't order this as an option. Is this now standard, or have I been given an incorrectly built car? This is by no means a bad thing, but also curious if it's possible to find out the options spec'd on the car from the VIN? Can you tell the engine it has from this too?

Cheers....

VIN i think only tells u make, model, colour, engine size and month built.

If it has then well played £150 option!

I could be wrong but doesn't that sensor (the black square plastic one) double as the Autonomous braking sensor - which i believe is standard?

EDIT - Just checked the SEAT Site and they now call it 'Pedestrian Protection'.

As above, it is for the collision alert system. I have had this a couple of times when driving towards a stationary car (which I was going to pass but the car panicked and gave the quite abrubt warning).

Found out on my new 300 today that it also restarts an auto-stopped engine (in traffic) when the vehicle in front moves off - my 280 didn't do this :)

It's hidden on the Passat
And on the Ateca - it's the SEAT logo on the front.

When it was added to the Leon in 2017 we assumed SEAT had gone for the quickest and easiest option because it was only a mid-lfe facelift, but then the all-new Ibiza and Arona were released with the same set-up so we knew it is just SEAT using the cheapest solution as always

Ahh - yes - that would probably be it then..... works independently of ACC and traffic jam assist though (i.e. with both of those switched off).... As usual, manual is a bit sketchy on this....

I think mine is behind the VW logo, I know it didn't like the snow last week...

Does make it easier to spot on Autotrader adverts though.

For me ACC is a must, and 9 times out of 10 Autortrader adverts just say Cruise Control. So on cars where it's well hidden (like BMWs, Mercedes, Jaguars and Range Rovers) it can be difficult to see, whereas with VAG group it's usually obvious, either a box in the lower grill or something that looks like black fog lamps.

Having the ugly black box in the grill doesn't mean ACC....... its the radar used to define distance etc within ACC, but also for front assist & Multi collision assist
