Just a note - even after doing the lining change process - the pistons still need pushing back manually - the lining process does not move them all the way out.
I had the caliper open and the pads out earlier and I noticed that the piston had not fully retracted. I could put the old pads back in but it was obvious the piston would have to go back further to get new pads and disks on. I've got a piston tool.

Yes, M12 thread on bolt but M14 Multi Spline or XZN, or even triple square. I've just bought a set for my older daughter's 2019 Leon Cupra, it has the longer version of these bolts.

I'd think that many/most of us buy diagnostic tools and don't have a trial run of every possible use we might end up having to use them for.

I "dream" about creating maps for every controller on each of our family's VW Group cars - but not quite got there yet, even working out where the clutch pedal/master cylinder switches are monitored has not been done by me - and I'll need to find out soon!

Edit:- I came up against the "XZN M12 is not where your kit should end" many many years ago - when working on a 2002 VW Polo front suspension, for that I just bought a single M14 XZN bit, but now I've improved/extended the range of XZN bits in my tool kit! Actually also bought RIB - but so far, I have not needed that.

I just figure out how to do things as and when I need them. As well as running checks I've disabled stop-start, coded new batteries and made a few small changes to things. I don't find it very intuitive but it wasn't expensive and you get there in the end.

I'd already ordered this. Looks the same but is not called triple square?

Hopefully your spline set - is triple square - see the comment regarding the UK below:

The caliper service position procedure only moves the parking brake screw out of the way - you still need to manually push the piston back, don't screw the piston in. Big pillars are normally fine.

Hopefully it's the right ones. You'd think if it was the less common type they'd say so.
Fingers crossed.
The caliper bracket bolts are very tight - so make sure the tool is a good fit, and clean out any rust/dirt. I normally give it a gentle tap with a knocking stick to ensure its fully home.
The rear can be a pain to get enough space/height to manoeuvre your breaker bar.
