Our silver MK3 has gone to the great scrapyard in the sky.

We now have a little 1.2 SEAT Ibiza S which was first sold in October 2010. The engine is CGPA189344
It's done just over 31,000 miles BUT seems to have never had the cambelt changed.

Am I right in thinking that it should be done every 5 years regardless of the mileage?

Other posts on here seem to advise that the water pump may not need to be changed at the same time (as is usual) as it is run off different belts and is on the other side of the engine.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Think it needs to be booked in after the next pay-day.

2010? must be a chain. Needs to be regularly assessed though. There's been a lot of "stuff" about these chains giving trouble. I have the later engine which does have a belt so I only know what I've read (I intentionally didn't buy the chain cam engine) but there are mentions of the chain itself stretching and the guides wearing. Maybe someone else on here with more knowledge of this could advise?
