Might be worth restoring your phone as a new phone. It'll give the OS a fresh install. Dont restore from backup otherwise it doesn't remove the issues. I'm not sure what that does to existing apps/contacts etc but a quick scan around t'interweb will tell you.

Note, all this is done through iTunes with your 3GS connected. Make sure you backup your iPhone prior to do anything.

I am also having the same issue with my 3GS losing connection
I never had this problem with my 3G iPhone
I have been in contact with Apple support but have not been able to resolve this issue
I have already restored my 3GS four times but still it keeps losing the connection
I have also noticed that when the engine is switched of the connection will drop and then connect again
Also now when the connection is droped it some times does not reconnect
The bluetooth in the 3GS is version 2.1 and on the 3G it is 2.0

Realy hope this is fixed soon
Maybe the iPhone update to 3.1 will help

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue and if it's true that it only affects the 3GS model then hopefully it might be addressed in a future update. I've made three car journeys so far today and it disconnect itself once during each journey. Two out of three times, the phone didn't reconnect again, although they were only short journeys so I didn't bother with the whole delete/re-pair/reconnect faff. :(

At least I now know it's not just my phone.

I had read on another forum that having WiFi turned on may cause the problem. My WiFi was turned on so I have turned it off and did not have any disconnections today.

Also read that it may be down to the situation of the phone.

It's not the Leon's bluetooth - my Sony Ericsson never disconnected.

It's a bit of a faff to have to remember to toggle WiFi on/off every time I get in and out of the car, but I'll see if your tip works for me until there's a better solution and report back here, thanks.

I agree it's not the car as my Nokia 6300 worked flawlessly with it.

I don't think that's solved it unfortunately. It disconnected today with WiFi turned off.

I am now trying the positioning of the 3GS to see if it helps. Someone mentioned the Bluetooth unit being under the driver's seat. When it disconnected today my phone was in my bag on the passenger side floor almost at the door.

For the rest of the day I kept it in my pocket whilst driving - hasn't disconnected.

Can we inform Apple so that they can look at a fix?

I've already placed one call to them regarding this - they recommended first disabling and re-enabling wifi, then resetting network settings. Neither worked. I have also tried temporarily disabling all radios using 'airplane mode' - didn't seem to make a difference either.

It might help if everyone with the problem raised a ticket with Apple Support, but I don't know how effective their escalation is - i.e. how many complaints it would take for them to look at this as a serious problem.

Iphone Bluetooth Disconects after lock

Hi all.

I have a Iphone 3G software V3.0 and have had similar bluetooth issues.

Using Motorola s805 bluetooth headphones, the music would stop comming though the headhones whenever the iPhone either Auto-Locked or when I locked the phone by pressing the button at the top of the phone.

After reading your thread I tried switching off the Wi-Fi. Now the bluetooth connection is not lost on Auto-Lock or Lock! What a strange problem! This definatly seems to be an issue with the phone!

Thanks for your help and lets hope a better solution is found or Apple pick up on the problem. Luckily my 1979 Volvo 262C doesnt have bluetooth hands free so I dont have that problem :D.

Cheers.

Hopefully things might improve when software version 3.1 is released.

Had exactly the same problem. Dont think this is a problem with the bluteooth in the car or where you place the phone. I have had the phone in the center console and my ihphone 3gs has randomly disconnected.

My K850i connected fine, never dropped and would often be connected even when I was standing a few feet away from the car.

Quite a rare beast you have got there in the volvo coupe! I used to love as a kid the noise the 2.7 v6 used to make as my next door neighbour had one ! It was the 264 GLE though T reg.

I looked on the website, filled in the form with basic details about the phone and problem and then called them and quoted the reference given when I'd filled in the form on the website.

I had a look last night but couldn't see anything obvious to fill in. I've just had a look again and can't see the form you are talking about - any chance of a link?

Meanwhile I have emailed them but may phone this morning too.

I agree. Mt K850i would connect even when the phone was in the house and I was outside putting the car away into the garage.

The issue lies with the phone and whatever Bluetooth it's using.

OK, I'm just about to call them again myself about this, so I'll note what I do this time:

1. Navigate to http://www.apple.com/support/expert/ (I found it via the iPhone bluetooth support page.)
2. Click 'Begin your Apple Expert experience now'.
3. Log in with your Apple ID.
4. Enter your hardware serial number (on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > About to find this if you don't have it written down).
5. Fill in the form with details of your setup and the problem. I think I chose "Bluetooth Headset connectivity" as the problem type as it was the closest category to the actual issue we're having.
6. The 'call me back' option is only available in the USA, so I chose 'I'll call Apple later'.
7. You then get a link to the phone numbers and a Case ID number to quote when you get through.

Good luck! :) I'll let you know how I get on.

Well, I got through after about five minutes of tree hugging world music and the guy was very polite and nicely spoken (maybe the Eire accent helps ;) )... he was not convinced it wasn't the car kit at fault, of course, even though I explained I've connected other phones without a problem.

He's going to talk me through doing a 'restore' when I get home tonight and ring them (I'm at work now so don't have my PC with iTunes etc to hand). I'm personally not convinced that a restore will help, but I guess you need to follow the script and jump the hoops before they'll take the problem seriously, eh?

Thanks for the link. I had looked at the UK site and never found it. I have included a link to this thread for their reference.

I'll give them a ring later - avoiding the 0870 number!

Why do they always try to blame the other kit?

Seems perfectly natural to me. I'm sure Seat would blame the phone, if you called them. In this case, I'd agree that it's the phone, but only because I have other context/information. If I didn't have my experience with the Nokia or knowledge of this forum and this thread, I might have reasonably phoned Seat for support rather than Apple. Providing technical help from 2nd/3rd line techies who know their stuff isn't cheap, so the initial tests are designed to catch faults which can be quickly resolved without such techies, or can be proved not to be in scope.

Probably they would.

I have just called Apple - not really of much help other than to reset network settings and restore the phone both of which I already have done. They suggested thet I do a total reset and not restore from backup - not keen on that to be honest as it loses everything and I'm not sure it will help.

I was told it was to do with the fact that Bluetooth could easily be hacked into and that it had to be as secure as possible to avoid sensitive data being taken from the iphone. He suggested that I ask Seat if they have an update to their software.
