So, had a call from a Cupra dealer today to say they had a Formentor V2, brand new, manual gearbox with the petrol blue interior but....in the metallic Black,? Now I've always fancied the Magnetic Tech Grey and always thought black is a really hard colour to keep clean along with it showing up ANY imperfections pretty easily, but... It DOES look pretty cool😎 any thoughts out there, anyone have the black model?

Black for me is the best colour. If you get it have it ceramic coated straight away and that’ll give you more of a chance keeping it nice. My car is a nightmare to wash without scratching and it is a lot of hassle to wash the right way. If your someone who’s really busy and runs the car upto to the hand car wash this isn’t the colour for you. Black cars show up marks on the paint alot and are very easy to mark up. I love black cars I have 2 myself but it’s a hassle keeping them scratch free and looking good and mine are both weekend cars I don’t even use them daily. But ceramic coating is the way forward.

Yeah that's what I thought tbh, I may hold out for the Mag Tech Grey, or a really good, nearly new model in the now unavailable (at least for the V2 model) Camo Green

I go the black one and when purchased from the dealer, I opted in for Autoglym lifetime lifeshine (got a decent deal). Don't have much experience with it as having it only for a week now but it was immaculate for day to day driving around town when it didn't rain but yesterday I took it for an hour trip via the motorway and the weather conditions were treacherous. It got dirty really bad (at least it looked like it!) but then when I left it overnight and it was raining again, this morning you can only see some remainings on the tyres and side mirrors - everything else washed away and it's back to, maybe, day 3 body-wise. I reckon without the Autoglym, I'd have to get it washed today.

Yes - it's getting dirty like any other car. Yes - you can see it probably more than on the brown or grey car (defo less intense than on a white car :D) but that's only if it's really dirty (i.e. after some cross rallying :)) and that black paint is a head turner ;)

Feel free to pm if you want any pics etc.

Got the metallic black since almost one year without any aftermarket treatment or coating.

Still love it and it's getting less dirty than my former white cars actually.

Black cars usually have the best paint / bodywork, because it shows up the slightest imperfection, and the manufacturers know that. BUT, they look filthy very quickly, and are hot in the summer. I've had them, but prefer metallic greys.

What's your feelings around these coatings?
Personally I doubt I could stretch to another grand or whatever on top of my purchase price, but...equally...I'm not sure they make so much of a difference if you keep on top of the washing anyway?

Never had any so I'm not really an expert to judge.

Cars are for using, going in the dirt, going to the mountains on salted roads in winter and anyway need to be cleaned properly from time to time...

I have never had any issue of scratching any of my car during washing (I don't use automatic car wash) and when it comes to reselling the car a couple of years later I don't think it will do much of a difference so I don't really consider that as an "investment".

I have the Mag tech grey and love it. I find it easy enough to keep clean. It is ceramic coated which helps. Its also lush in the sunshine as it turns blue in certain light.

I had the autoglym on our puma. To be honest its crap. Not a patch on a proper ceramic coating. It doesn't last long.

The thing with this is that all of those are done by the dealerships who are not trained in proper detailing. If anyone go with professional detailer - it doesn't matter what product it is (autoglym or ceramic) - it's just done better.

So far, I'm really happy for what I got and it cost me only £200 for a lifetime of the ownership 🙂

In my opinion ceramic coating definitely makes a big difference especially when I’m washing my car it’s so much easier. I’ve coated my own cars but I’m sad like that but I know I’ve only got to do it once I’ve not reapplied it to any of my cars on has had it for 2 years and one only since March. I like lifeshine but used amour king’s ceramic coating from the Netherlands it was around £100 one bottle did my entire car with a tiny bit left over. I did the glass and alloys too. The shine is good too once it’s cured to over night.
But this is only my opinion on using the products and other people might not feel the same as me I am a very sad when it comes to cars you might not share my love lol

There's a Black VZ around the corner from me which looks fabulous if I'm honest. The contrast with the black wheels and silver/grey trim makes it.

However, my last four cars have been black. Never again.

I had a S3 Saloon Black Edition, in Mythos Black. I paid approx £1k for a professional decontamination, paint correction and ceramic coating when the car was 6 months old. The paintwork looked better than new. I'm talking wheels off, wheels polished, coated, wheel wells level of detail. The entire car was like glass/mirror.

It lasted a winter until the swirls and scratches started re-appearing. I use snow foam pre-rinse and the two-bucket method with proper products. Always.

The coating lasted a good two years, as evident by the water beading. But the problem with ceramic is, it doesn't protect from scratches, and the coating itself still swirls. And with a black car it shows everything. The final nail on the coffin was that you can't polish ceramic otherwise you literally remove the ceramic coating. So if you have a minor scratch you'd easily polish out. You can't without removing the ceramic.

I'd never have ceramic coating on a daily driver, ever again.

How is the coating applied, if Professional Retailers are charging hundreds if not thousands to Ceramic coat cars how do they justify it if you can buy it 'Over the counter" how easy is it to apply, I see you mentioned "Curing" so is this a job better carried out indoors (As in a garage...cos I don't have one😏)
I'm not disputing the quality of work carried out by detailers just curious as the costs can be quite expensive, I guess your paying for the time, quality of product used and, excuse the pun, attention to detail.

It takes a long time to do it it’s a days work I’d say. I didn’t use the garage as it was summer and I left the car outside over night in a warm night. Have a look on YouTube how it’s done I researched the kits first and for me the amour king’s ceramic coating seemed the best available.
Trust me it is long winded but for me it was worth the time. I still have people comment now on how shiny the car looks when clean and water still runs off the panels when it’s been raining. I can understand why people charge so much.
It’s mixed opinions about coating I’m always recommending it to friends and customers but no one ever listens as t was £100 and a days worth of work but I don’t regret it as to me it’s a investment to keep my paint as nice as it possible can be.
