Bike racks problem

Has anyone got any ideas regarding which bike rack to use on my 53 Sport, reason I ask is that I borrowed the halfords rack for the back but the straps pull against the plastic spoiler (not happy about that) also regarding the alternative roofrack option, the ibiza doesnt have any slats etc like on other cars where the rack would attach this then leaves the rack potentially attaching directly to the metal (not happy about that either) so any ideas very much appreciated :funk:

Cheers for that mate, Ive just went looking for the Thule bars and they look good, the info regarding the atera giro rack is very useful, thanks very much. I take it you are happy with them and that they hav'nt damaged the car etc?

i just bought those as without a towbar they are the only option, they hook onto the metal above the windows!

I quite like the sound of this as currently I dismantle the bike and shove it in the car, but would rather not as it gets particularly filthy when I go out!!

Cheers for the info :D.

Well, actually for all this winter I have just been putting my (dirty) bike in the car! The bars make lots of noise, the bike is held well, but is a faff when putting other bikes on. It won't hold my wife's trek because of the large and funny shaped downtube.

I have just got a tow bar and thule aeroclassic 4 bike rack for my other car.

oh and I have damaged the car - but that was because I tried to drive into the garage with bike still on the roof. TBH I was more concerned about damage to my bike!

tow bars are the way forward though. Got a bike rack for mine that sits on the tow bar and doesn't touch the car at all.

Be carfeul with the roof racks for the Ibizas - especially the SEAT ones. My Dad's roof has been slightly creased by the SEAT roof bars - and yes they've all been torqued correctly, not overtightened etc.

He's actually on his second '03 Ibiza as the first one the dealer fitted the roof bars and the roof creased really badly. It got sent back to Spain for examination and he got a brand new one FOC. As I said the roof on this one has also creased slightly at one of the mounting points but nothing like the first one did.

All good info chaps, ive been to Skidrive online and they are very reasonable compared to the usual culprits (halfords etc) however before I go ordering a Thule system from them could someone possibly post a pick of the system on a 3dr ibiza (53 plate) reason i ask is I dont understand how the rear feet attach to the car, as my window etc doesnt open, no door etc, basically a pic to put my mind at ease would be great,

cheers

Spooky. I've just bought some roof bars for my new car (not an ibiza), and I nearly got a set of the newer Giros (Giro AF) which look even better.

www.roofbox.co.uk doing a deal on bars + Giros at the moment.

The only reason I didn't is that i want to make absolutely sure at least one carrier will fit next to my roof box.

Edit: If you don't want two, and if you were a bit closer, I'd suggest doing a deal ;)

The 3dr has the clamp going into/under the roof seals. Because there are no obvious marks I ended up putting some little stickers on the inside of the window to show me where they were supposed to go.

Whats the totoal cost of the thule system? I too dismantle the bike and fold the seats down because I wasnt happy with the flex on the spoiler. Would like the roof bar system and handy for other things too.

I got a bike carrier free from my sis and it sat in the shed for ages. I looked at fitting it the other week and came to the same conclusion that the weight of the carrier and bike will be bearing on the spoiler a bit too much. Can't see it lasting all that long.

Then I remembered that I got roof bars with the car (from the previous owner) so tried fitting them. They took about 10 mins and are really easy to fit. You just need to make sure you don't clonk the opposite side of the bar down on the roof as you hold one side.
I think I'm gonna get a Thule roof carrier for the bike in the next month or so, 'cos carrying it in the car is a real ar5e.
