Hi guys i know all about the specific grade oil for the 1.9 PD engine,i have been using Valvoline for the last few changes but to be honest after a few thousand miles the smoothness and quietness wears off a bit and it satrts to sound like a tractor on idle,

So just wondering what other Brands are you guys using and how do you find them in terms of keeping the engine quiet?

Cheers

how do you find these oils guys in terms of engine tickover noise?
as i say valvoline doesnt seem to be that quiet after a few thousand miles after a change.

I've only had my FR Tdi for a few thousand miles but on buying it I had Millers XFE-PD put in. XFE-PD's a semi synthetic. The engine's pretty smooth and quiet - don't get me wrong it's not like you can't tell its running, but it's okay :)

I'm going to put Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 in next as I got some cheap, plus it's a fully synthetic. I'll be following a 5k oil change routine...overkill perhaps but I'm a bit keen on oil and changes.

Got Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 put in today and I can tell you the engine feels a lot better on it than with Millers XFE PD. Don't know why but it now feels a lot smoother accelerating and quieter on tickover. Very happy :)

Does good oil make a diffrence on engine quietness?

My oil is due a change and want to give the car something decent and keep the noise down, as i use BP Ultimate fuel and that helps.

I got a good deal on Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 at ASDA...a lot of people rate Castrol Edge too. Why not give either a go? :)

I used to be very loyal to Millers XFE in particular and then recently XFE-PD. On trying the Mobil ESP 507 spec stuff I think my engine prefers the ESP - quieter and smoother.

Only thing is the Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 doesnt meet the 505.01 requirements that my car needs (leon 150 tdi)

Im running Mobil 1 ESP Formula 15w 30 (505.01) in mine pd150!
Just topped it up, with 0.2L after driving ~6000km since last change.

as long as it has the 505.01 spec it should be fine but i have always tried to use the best oil available. Valvoline is a very good oil as is Gulf. tbh i wouldnt touch comma or carlube etc. Castrol is the oil that Seat, VW, Audi use at their dealers. they DON'T use Quantum oil, even though it is blended by Castrol it is not up to the same spec as the Castrol branded oil. and up until late last year the 10w40 Quantum oil was actually under specced.

I've just bought a Cupra TDI 150. It's on 150k and I'm ready to do the service. Looking at this thread I'm probably going to go for Mobil 1 ESP 5w30.

Could anyone confirm if this is ok to go in my 150k car? Also do I need a 5 and 1ltr bottle to do a service and will this oil help reduce the noise from the engine.

Thanks :)
