Have you checked your cam chain tensioner? It will make a ticking noise if the chain is loose and hitting off the sides, it should disappear with higher revs though so might not be this, may be worth checking though

Well cars has Gone Now to the mechanic (my Mate) left at his house so he can work on it easyer than coming to mine....

I drove it 1/2 miles down the road and at 40mph the ticking noise went away which was odd and started ticking wen at low Rpm or idle...

So we shall see...any takers?

My shot tensioner rattled up to about 2k revs then went and it sounded worst on idle(like a diesel almost). I think its a small grommet on the part that wears away and allows more travel/movement on the chain. I hope its a simple fix mate :)

sounds exactly like my 1.4 16v did a couple of days ago, after tearing the rocker cover of i found 2 hydraulic tappets had basically collapsed and refused to hold oil, there about 5.50 each for mine, but i think the 20 vt uses different ones and there about 15 each :( OUCH

Done some more searching in to the tapping sound and its my Lifters Seems there are knackered well the ones on cyl 1 are...

We can't pin point which lifter as theres 5 bunched together so ive told him to replace the 5 instead...We have done a oil pressure test and it is spot on 3bar on cold engine @ idle And 2.3bar at 80c on idle...So the oil is getting up there,,

il let you lot now soon how we get on.

we've changed the lifters over on cyl 2 and still no change so thats ruled the lifters our,we then fitted a new vvt tensioner and then same again,so ive spoken alex @bdm and were checking the oil pressure again along with plugs, coilpacks and comp and leak down test.

efr 6758 here i come
sounds exactly the same as mine did before it blew up, i lost a rod through the side of the block but the guy who is buildin engine said when i shown him pic of rod and piston that was pistin failure that caused engine to blow, and when piston shattered at top the rod just punched through side of block,
i may be wrong but thats what happened in my case and sounded exactly the same as yours, everyone did say was hydraulic lifters but turned out to be piston failure that caused the damage,
