Right, I've sorted the dipped/main beam issue with the twin reflector lights. :D

The problem was that the dipped beam would go out when you turned the main beam on. This is an MOT fail, if noticed.

The fix is basically explained in the picture below. I've fitted a relay in the circuit that provides the dipped beam with power when the main beam is on.

The above picture doesn't show the relay itself which is tucked neatly away underneath the headlamp so it cannot be seen when you lift the bonnet.

The picture below also shows the permanent live which has been run from the battery, directly to the relay.

Took about 90mins to do from start to finish, but that includes rummaging around for the correct tools etc.

The end result is:
I've also taken one of the covers off the back of the driver's side headlamp to try and dry it out, as it has condensated up quite badly in the pictures.

Northern Ireland accent FTW! Although there are some dodgy regional accents within NI lol.

Haha there's dodgy accents all around the place really, I sound like one of the feckin rubberbandits haha.

Right Sam I really wouldn't feel confident doing this stuff myself. Cheers for the help though :) I'm ringing around to get insurance quotes tomorrow so I'll ring an auto electrician aswell.

Red dipped beam wire get scotch locked to a black wire that goes to the switched terminal on relay.

Yellow main beam wire gets scotch locked to a red wire that goes to the +12v.

Orangey browney ground wire gets scotch locket to a black wire which goes to the -12v side of relay.

Drill hole in bottom of light, feed wires through and connect to relay :D

ARGH you're getting it into my head that I can do it. I'd find the car burnt to the ground the next day haha. Okay what's on a relay?Like what's a switched terminal?

And what kind of wire is that black wire? As you can see I know absolutely nothing about electrics!

Your best off going into your local electronic store and saying what relay would I need for a 12volt feed with one switchable feed.

The +12v is positive, -12v is NEUTURAL (earth) and the switch basically operates the same as a light switch. Won't go into detail of how it works as I'll confuse you haha

No probs mate its really simple and just think your not gunna kill the car by scotch locks they're easily reversible back to the way it was that's the beauty of them :)

Sam

I have about 20 scotch locks aswell :D little electrician I am. Is the +ve and -ve on the relay? And don't I have to run a wire to the battery aswell?
