Disconnecting the battery for 20/30seconds apparently resets the ECU.

My engine management came on after cleaning the car, i disconnected the battery to reset the ECU and the light went off.

My radio didn't need recoding.

When I reset my ECU by disconnecting the battery I have to input a code for the stereo.

It lets you do a 'throttle body alignment', do a search and all will be revealed...

edit: Oh and I'll 2nd that you won't lose your remap!

You cant do a throttle body alignment by disconnecting the battery. You can only do it on vag com.

If you disconnect it with APR you have to input your code to get the map back.

What are the benefits of resetting batery?:

I drive a Mk4 so I'd just like to clear something up here.
What do you mean by resetting and what are you trying to achieve?

As far as I know you will have to re-enter the existing radio code (see the manual about how to do this) but the remap is safe if you disconnect the battery.
You may find that you have to reset the electric windows to one touch but that's about it.

I stand to be corrected as this is about a Mk3.

Regards Guy.

I have an MK3, my radio has never been affected.

You will not loose your remap.

The clock on the radio fascia will automatically update itself to the correct time once you receive adequate radio signal.

Resetting the ECU will clear codes, i.e. engine management light, but if the fault code is still within the system, the engine management light will display again after a short while.
