Audi S3 or Ibiza Cupra?

S3 without a shadow of a doubt. Have you not considered an Evo? You could get a nice Evo 6 for that and have a bit to spend on it as well.

well id say LCR, (i know i know...) but 10k will get you a nice one and 2k later you will have most of what you wanted...

failing that the S3 no question.

spending more than what a car costs on mods isnt such a good plan in the long run unless you wanted a track car?

I see your point, but they're expensive to maintain and there was a reason for me saying it must be VAG - I have one mate who is a VW mechanic, and another who owns a VAG specialist. This is worth it's weight in gold not just because I get parts cheap & labour cheap (if I'm charged at all), but because I always know I'm not being charged for something that isn't broken, or charged for unecessary parts some garage has replaced because they didn't have the skills to pinpoint a problem.

The Ibiza Cupra would be more of a suprise, cos there rare, i was also thinking about an S3, but when you look on auto trader etc theres so many - compared to a maximum of maybe 10 Ibiza Cupra's. i see S3's every day driving in London. And looking in my VW performance mag right now suprisingly there are no S3's in the hall of fame. But theres to IHI Ibiza's In my opinion the Ibiza would be more of a suprise, tuning will be very similar cos they both have the same block, only difference is the FW/4X4 drive train.

I have a s3 and think it's a great car,lovely interior ,build quality and looks. It also has bt power but you will always have the handicap of weight but it depends what you intend to do with the car? If it's a all out racer ,how about a 1.8t quattro a3 ,weight reduction,big turbo depending on how your budget looks uprate internals to 2.0l.Traction is the beezer's limitation and i think 400bhp is the absolute limit but it would be very very fast of that i'm sure.

With 12k in my back burner i would trawling for other VAG's

how about a nice V6 Golf 4-motion for say 8k then 2k on an R32 bodykit and spray, then the other 2 on wheels and an AMD remap and milltek exhaust.

R32 looky likey but got to love that sound.

Or,

Passat W8 4.0 4-motion, can grab a low milage one for 12k and these were near 40k new.

or

Audi S4 get the proper one with the 2.7 Bi-turbo like CPU freaks. Phenomenol pace, discreet looks but known by those who know cars.

or

High milage R32's start at £12500 now

or

LCR 225 can be had for that money, you need no more info on these.

or

Audi 225 TT for 11 with enough left over for exhaust and remap,

so much choice from VAg so look further afield. But don't but a mk3 cupra and spunk 7k on it, cos end of the day it is just a Mk3 ibiza and that 12k will get you a lot more car if you look in the right places.

i have just a remapped ibiza and I have to say I was acutally disappointed when I test drove an S3.

I've always loved the S3's ever since my mate had a horrible yellow coloured one .... (£1000 optional extra, takes £1000 off the resale value... you do the maths !). They are very well built and the steering feel and weight is really nice (the worst thing about the ibiza I think) and those recaros are quality, but it actually felt slow in 225bhp form, even remapped you don't often see them drop much lower than 15s standing quarter. Not something I could justify spending another £5-6k on.

It all depends on what you are after, I love the ibiza cos it feels like a little holigan on the road and around the Nurburgring I haven't had so much fun with my trousers on. The build quality is not a patch on the Audi, but then it is engineered by Wolfgang and put together by Pedro !

One last thing is that £10k will actually get you a bit of a ropey S3 with high miles, when £6k will get you a mint low mileage Ibiza...... swings and roundabouts some may say.

I have driven alot of S3's and they are avery nice car but they are more of a luxury car. the ibiza is quicker and more exciting in my eyes. With the money you have to spend you would have one hell of a car.

Ibiza every time for me, or S4 bi-turbo.

and the driver was ****...

a well modified S3 with a decent driver and decent tyres will get late 13s in my opinion

yeah and new shape M3's get 14.6 qtr miles, so don't let qtr miles become a measurement of a cars pace. My mate could only get 14.5 in his Monaro and that would annhilate most cars on here but the qtr mile figures don't show it at all.

S3 or one of my suggestions.

S3 is a great car imo...think at my age id get an R32 tho tbh
