My luck on ebay is quite hit n miss.
Saw it, checked the sellers feedback to well, make sure he had some.
And put an offer in.
Waited 2 minutes and hit buy it now haha.
To be honest, April is historically my skint month. But at the price i thought id take a punt.
Just hope its not too good to be true.

Ridiculously cheap that, I’ve just bought a 5 speed from Spain to use as parts to refurb mine and that was £80 with tax and shipping! Plus I’m not sure how it comes apart so could be a wasted £80 at that.

The top disc prises out which then reveals a screw that holds down the outer plastic ring.

Any tips on getting that disc out as it looks flush so too tight for plastic tools and too delicate for metal?

I did my standard gear knob a few weeks ago, and I found that either a really, really thin flat head screwdriver will do it, or if you get a wide and thin bit of plastic under the *outer* ring, you can get it to pop up just enough to prise it out.

I used a tiny flat screwdriver that I use on my glasses.
Came out with that easily

Ok boredom indoors got the better of me so thought I'd pull this spare perforated metal one apart...

Err...yeah well that's fvcked then

The last one I split, albeit a leather one was much easier and was slightly different inside.
After prolonged attempts at prising the cap off even after heating it really wasn't shifting so made the conscious decision to sacrifice the cap (5 speed anyway) by drilling a hole into it so it could be levered out.

Haha yeah right this bugger was basically cemented in so in my brave attempt I cracked the flipping Seat Sport surround - whoops!

The body of the gearknob can definitely be salvaged and I might have a go at fully polishing it but sourcing a suitable cap is going to undoubtedly be extremely difficult.

Seems pricey for one in that condition. It’s got me wondering - do audi gearknobs of a similar era fit the Mk1 Leon? Seems like there is more choice out there at a sensible price.

They do. All VW Audi group had or has same fittings
