Nearly £1200 worth of kit, just need to pick up the double-din dash to convert it so it fits. I'm looking at this guide however and while I know that Pabs' has made a modification to his, I'm still a little nervous that it won't all fit. I also need tips on where to locate stuff such as the GPS, Bluetooth and CD changer units. Anyone got any ideas?

Right, double-din dash installed and head unit is in and working. Not quite perfect, but since we've not installed the bluetooth, sat nav or cd changer (may not install that, not sure) it's not a problem as we'll be going back in to install later. Also need to sort the cig-lighter out as I don't have one at all at the moment so I can't charge my phone while I'm driving, which is a ball ache with a Nokia N900 :(

Photos to follow anyway.

For anyone considering the mod; switching the dash over is actually quite simple. The time consuming part for us was that the wiring loom that came with the head unit had been cut by the previous owner rather than using an adapter cable, so we had to do some rewiring of our own to an ISO block.

The HU is awesome BTW :D

Well, I've not posted about having to replace the clutch master and slave cylinders a month ago, but yeah, this bit is going well, but could be better. The bezels that go around the screen aren't a great fit. The one that came with the cage gets pulled off when I eject the disc, and the one that came with the HU doesn't lock in to this cage, so it's a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Will sort that properly when the other components go in, which I'm in no rush to do TBH, though it would be nice

Sounds good to me mate. I think I have a boost leak however which I need to get sorted. Can hear a whooshing noise from somewhere, though the power doesn't seem especially down. Baffled, but has been ever since the clutch was sorted and it's rev-related and only while under load.

Anyway, poor quality, but finally got some pics to show you:

No TV I'm afraid (don't have the TV tuner module, though I may get it... one day) but we can watch DVDs :D

New clutch, fly-wheel and a gearbox refurb done over the last couple of weeks. Giving it a couple of weeks to feel whether it's all perfect or not, but feeling pretty good so far. Gear changes feel much more positive, though that could be because I've had a month of driving the wife's 1.4

All came around because I got a nasty vibration from the clutch in March and eventually I lost all pressure in the clutch. Trying to get it home clutchless took out the synchro on first hence the refurb. Turns out that the vibration was because 1/3 of the clutch material was missing. And I mean missing; the mechanics have no idea where it went, though it looks likely that it was obliterated and came out in the oil.

just out of interest what did that set you back mate... the LC is sitting on the drive with no clutch pedal at the momment. I working on around £700 for clutch/fly/slave/fitting as a ball park guess.

It came to a grand total of £1200 (inc VAT), but that was including the £400 gearbox job mate. Was done by Mansfield Engine Centre, and to be honest I can't fault them at all. I'm not 100% sure (I know, I should've asked) but I think they did some kind of actuator too (not on the invoice mind you).

If you don't fancy, or can't do the job yourself, I would recommend them. I asked around and a few people I've spoken to recommended them and they saved my sister a fortune on a head-gasket job a while back.

Thinking about doing it myself to save on the labour... my estimate is about right. Thanks mate.
