Altea 1.6 O2 sensor

Hi All
Apologies if this is a repeat thread, I have searched but not turned any results.

The engine management light has popped up on our 2005 1.6 Altea Reference
I've had it read with a Snap-on Ethos which returned:-

14617. Linear O2 Sensor Bank 1 Sensor1 pump current wire open circuit P3161 Not a plausible signal intermittent.

I know this is the Lambda sensor but would this be pre cat or after cat?
Also they easy enough to get at and change?

The reading also returned:-

17698 Coolant temp sensor at radiator outlet (G83) signal too small P1290 short with power intermittent...
Think this is a long occurring fault as ever since we've owned the car, as the ignition /car is started fans start straight up... But engine management light has Only just come on so not related I believe..

Any help and advice is great fully received!

Many Thanks :help:

If fans run when car turned on even when cold (aircon off) then this is typical vw/audi/seat/skoda coolant temp sensor fault . If u have code which u do then replace this first , even with a faulty temp sens the light isnt always on ! This could also be the cause of the 02 sensor fault but change temp sens first , clear codes and try . Bank 1 sens 1 is before cat and if u do replace use an oem one only (prob £150ish)

Hi Snap-on, thanks for the reply....

As I'd got no answers here I went ahead and took it too garage instead and got them to diagnose and repair..

The findings were, temp sensor fault was dodgy contacts on plug, clean refit no fault code 're appeared and fans don't come on at start up (but do when at temp)

The O2 sensor fault was, small diaphragm in sump breather pipe had split oil had entered intake burnt and knackered lambda sensor on it's way through ..new pipe with diaphragm £37, new 02 sensor £130 (geniune parts) and fault and light gone...
First 02 readings on Mot was 0.191 % vol co, against a fail value of 0.200! after repairs 0.025 and a pass.....definately a differance!
To be honest though, I would have just changed the O2 sensor and been none the wiser as to the oil entering the intake through crank breather....

Hopefully this thread may help someone out in the future also both my comments and yours mate, so Thanks..!
