Alloy Wheel Plasti Dip

I've purchased a set of 17" FR alloy wheels yesterday and decided to customize it using some plasti dip I've had laying around for ages.

Let me know what you think about the finish and if it looks better in the matt black or plain silver.

looks good gives me inspiration to do my winter alloys, do you need to prime? or just spray directly onto the alloy? also how far does the 400mil can go?

I'm going to use around 3/4 cans for 4 wheels but I'm also spraying the inside of the wheel with 2 light coats. Most people just spray the outside of the wheel so I guess you could probably get away with 2/3 cans.

I haven't used any prime and as far as I know it's not needed with plasti dip.

Thanks I must admit I have managed to get few small drip marks but other then that I'm more then happy with the final outcome. First time using plasti dip and never used any spray paint before so I was expecting worse

Paid around £30ish for 3 cans few months ago. I would also recommend watching youtube videos from Dipyourcar.com, very useful tips and advice.

The whole process is pretty straight forward just need to make sure the alloys are 100% clean and there is no oil or dust on them. Took me around an hour to clean two alloys but managed to get a perfect surface for painting. (Soapy water x2 > Wonder Wheel > Water > Microfiber> White Spirit)

Look much better silver imo. Black wheels have been done to death and don't look good either.

In my opinion the black alloys should look much better on my candy white ibiza. I am also getting few other bit powder coated gloss black so they should go together nicely.

Other bits which I will be doing over next few weeks:

Debadging front & back
Black Powder Coated Mirrors
White & Black Bumper (bocanegra)
Privacy Glass (Back windows)
Coilovers or Springs
Revo Stage 1

For a white car, I'd agree that the black wheels would be the best choice... Nice contrast! For any other car colour I can think of at the moment, I'd probably have just stuck with silver! lol

We shell see how the plasti dip holds up in next few months and the good thing about it is I can always just peel the whole thing off when I get bored of the black alloys. :) Thanks

I too love these wheels. Are the curb hunters though?

Thanks and I am not sure as I still haven't driven my new ibiza as I need to pass my driving test first, I guess we will find out in next few weeks

Ive seen that plastidip stuff...

Have you seen how much cheaper it is in the usa, shocking !

I was going to do my whole car cuz in the states everything costs you about £150 job done...over here its nearly £400..

But them aerosols can be bought from ebay at £11 per can, think its a can per wheel, but may be mistaken

how are your wheels doing ?

I'm not sure as I don't drive the car atm it's just sitting in my drive way. I've got my first driving test in two weeks so I will probably post an update in few weeks if I mange to pass.

I have managed to do all 4 alloys with 3 cans and still have around 35% left of the 3rd can. I've done 5 light coats on all wheel and around 2 coats inside the alloy.

I've paid £380 delivered for mine which was very reasonable as they also had Bridgestone tyres on them with around 6/7mm tread..
