Sounds a bit too cheap tbh!

Is that custom silicon or metal piping?

The benfits of using someone like SFS is that they've sold a lot of these pipe sets and with every sale they get feedback from their customer (including me) - thus allowing them to refine the design.

With a custom jobby there's nothing like that.

the penultimate gain from fitting all these pipes is to allow a large free flow of constant air to the engine so the best things to have would be:

large diameter solid pipes, ideally metal
the tightest seal you can get
no restriction i.e egr valve
and as clean as possible - so get the inlet manifold bathed in acid!

the problem with alot of silicone is it swells under boost so the more metal - the better.

some companies have seen a constant 3hp gain over standard with an egr delete, probably down to the free flow of air.

I probably need to check my EGR too.
I can imagine it's a pain from looking at it :(

I think it was just under £190 for the Turbo outlet to Intercooler pipes, including aluminium pancake. Comes with all clips and adapters required.

I also believe that you will get a better kit than what I've got as they've had more time to develop it. For one, I'm pretty sure the pancake will be better. I have photos of the kit as it came on my Flickr.

The Intercooler to EGR was a bit more I think. There is a lot more piping though.

If you need any advice when fitting the pancake part etc just ask. I'll first note that yes, I did have to modify the wheel arch plastics cover thing - otherwise the piping would have been touching the driveshaft.

EDIT: And by "modify" the plastics, I do mean hack away chunks out of it.

i take it your on a standard turbo tho?

what boost and bhp/lbft?

I've a fair bit exp with above as I was running one of the first sfs kits, now im onto the newer kit with metal pipes. My car is just shy of 2 bar running hybrid.

Get a mate to rev your engine and watch the pipes expand!, not good.

when i got my allards i actually went up to the house as they're based near my parents. i had a good chat with the guiy that makes them and he said that he'd taken on board peoples comments regarding the fitting and modified the kit. he'd obviously done somethign right as i had very little issues fitting mine. only problem was fittign the down pipe from the top of the engine to the passenger side of the intercooler. to be expected though when you see the size and shape differences. All in all I'm very im,pressed with the kit. the onyl problem is that there is not enough of it as you have to buy the turbo outlet hose and the two pipes that go into either side of the intercooler separately. Since gettign the kit I've become aware of the amount of boost leaks around the pipes that weren't replaced, in the main due to the crap way in which they attach and the o-rings being shot!!! I'll need to get the pipes from SFS to complete the kit!!!

as far as the EGR is concerned, I would say it's a must that you replace or at least clean it as mine looked quite clean when I removed the boost pipe. However when I actually removed the EGR (with great difficulty) the amount of crap inside it and in the inlet manifold was absolutely crazy. Prob about half in inch of tarry sludge coating everything. I cleaned out what i could but without removing the manifold it was impossible to clean properly and i didn't really want to drop any lumps in the inlet manifold.

I haven't tried the SFS stuff, but from my experience the Allards kit is easy to fit and i've not had any of the issues that others seem to have had so I'm guessing they must have made sufficient mods to the kit to sort it out!!!

Yeah I've seen the pipes expand. I know it's not "good" but what's actually bad about it? Additional wear & tear because things are moving etc..?

I've not had a rolling road done since my first map mate so we're looking at:
(The dyno with p-torque was actually done with a boost leak too, I found afterwards lol)
Dyno read 190bhp-ish after map then I added:

decat
pipercross performance panel filter
nice wide SFS piping & pancake
sachs organic clutch & bits

Probably pushing 200bhp after all that?

Can't remember lbft. It was lovely though.

Hybrid's coming next - after my holiday in July.

doupt u will see 200, standard turbos can't do it for more than 5 mins.

The pipes expanding is bad because it gives lag, and doesn't give consistant boost

Yeah me either that's why I said pushing.

The lag makes sense. Guess I'll have to change some of the larger silicon pipes for metal... when I can find somewhere to buy metal piping from? :S

Should be easy enough to do....? Providing I can get the metal pipes "flange-d". I plan to cut the largest possible sections out of the silicon and replacing with metal. My current largest piece of silicon is going from the pancake to intercooler I think, which will be very awkward to replace with metal.

Well when I had my car decat I noticed less turbo lag.
And more smoke :) - even though everyone tells me that cat doesn't affect smoke.

Haha funny you should mention removing the backbox - was going to ask around this weekend to see if I can find someone to do welding on the cheap for me (straightpipe) - I'm tight, you see

i noticed on my miltek turbo spooled up alot quicker ,

smoke would be filtered a little via a cat , no cat no filtration ,, straight pipe will bound to see more smoke

as they say tho no smoke no poke :)

i know dynos are lottery etc , but mine showed as not far from the 200 with std pipework

I have a red LCR bumper in my garage ;)
I'm spraying it silver, though

Guess I'll be doing research into milltek large bores. They still around £300-400?

Yep that's what they say!
I would say smoke doesn't bother me, but it does a bit because 1 trip after cleaning my car and I already have a thin layer of "TDirt" on my boot/rear bumper :(

LCR on the back only at the moment lol - that's why I've got the red one

Oval style would deffo be nice..

Wonder if I can find a yard breaking an LCR and ask for the rear part of the exhaust then get someone to weld it on... seems like an ok idea...

Nice.

Not a bad price!
Now considering that myself haha!

Another reason I ended up with part silicon pipes was that I was in a hurry. I wasn't just upgrading - I was also fixing. My intercooler out pipe had blown off and was bodged on with a couple of jubilee's and then my pancake shattered so car was off the road :(

Chris, where did you get the longer turbo outlet pipe from? was that purchased through Allard and made by SFS? I have just spoken to them and SFS say that its only available through Allard?

I have just purchased the billet adaptors from SFS, so I will be on the way to making my own kit shortly.

Guys, can anyone tell me the diameter of the allards pipework please? I am about to purchase some silicone bits to go with my allards pipework, but its yet to arrive.
