HI, i have a cupra TDI 06 and has covered only 13k with the same symptoms as the above.

Has anybody found a cure? . I have just had the droplinks replaced under warrenty and the knocking is still there. It feels like it is coming from the steering column and is progressively getting worse.

Any ideas.

Rattles and misfire - update -

Hi all -

Two updates for you.

First the misfire at 1750 rpm. I have had the update done to the EGR valve gasket. It seems to have made a great improvement, although you can still detect a little still when cold, it is an improvement though. Downside one of the engine management lights came on whilst on the motorway, you have guesed it - fault with the EGR valve. The dealer has reset the ECU as it may be a 'blip' on the ECU. I will wait and see.

Still no news back on the DISS report from SEAT regarding the cracking noise from the front suspension. So, I have been onto the Customer services who are saying that despite the obvious problem with the model as listed on here 'Technical are not aware of any reported problems with the front suspension'

My car has done 1300 miles - the Toledo it replaced had done 85000 and the Ibiza has already been into the dealer more times for faults!

I will persue this today, but could I ask that those of you with the fault ring customer services and the dealers and log the faults, asking for a DISS report to be filed. It may start to register on their radar if we do.

'Technical are not aware of any reported problems with the front suspension'

Someone is lying to you or me then, because the last time I asked about the front suspension issue I was told that "Seat are now aware of this as others have reported similar problems"

Hi -

Thanks for the replies, dealer states not probs with the Anti roll bar or wishbone bushes - i thought theywere the obvious source.

Crafoo - who told you technical were aware - I had a very negative conversation with Customer Services yesterday who said 'we are not aware of any issues' - if it was them I would be intersted as I am in the process or putting my complaint in a letter to them.

Thanks

John

It was the service manager told me that they were aware of the problem

it's happeming on my 2000 Polo Tdi (built by seat!!) it's been getting worse and worse, sounds like somethings going to fall off!! hopefully it will last till Sayurday so i can get under it and have a look!

Mine only happnes when driving straight and turning right, when turning left it doesnt knock. Seems to come up the stearing column so could well be rubbing on something!

I coasted the car down hill and revved the engine in neutral to make sure if it was from the engine and the noise didnt increase with revs, so isnt the engine!!

Oh no, I don't think so, both cars are built in Spain but not at same locations and by different companies. VW only build their small cars in Spain to utilise the cheap labour market - but the facility is owned and operated by VW - one of them builds at Palmlona - VW Polo and the other one Seat at Barcelona.
Only variants of old Polos that might have been built by Seat plants would be some saloons and estates - but most of them went elsewhere and not UK.

How far did you get with this mate, did you get round to writing a letter? if so what response did you get if any?

The last thing I got told about mine was that the steering rack that was supposed to be getting modified was for a different model and there are no plans to do it for my car [:@] so my next question was "what is happening now then?" to which the response was "ummm nothing" More award winning service from possibly the most useless and lazy set of so called customer service people and mechanics that I've ever had to deal with. All in all hugely disappointed with the service I have received since buying the car, I wouldn't mind as much if people seemed bothered and wanted to try and fix the fault but nobody gives a toss.

My car makes a grinding noise when at full lock turning right pulling off. Dealer took in my car, tried to get the car to make the noise and the stupid car wouldnt do it.They said they had the car up on the ramps and said they didnt find anything odd and that evrything was screwed on tight. I have now found it will only do it on uneven surfaces. No idea what it could be but im flogging the car come march anyway so im not overly bothered TBH.

And so the front suspension saga continues here I see. Well my FR is now 3 1/2 years old and it's starting to develop rattles. Had a noise coming from under the floorpan and couldn;t figure out what it was - after much head scratching I finally found a missing washer/nut on the heat sheild on the rear box - "great" I thought and replaced it

...and the rattle remained. I then did the usual trick of empty the car of tool box in the wheel well, stuff in the glove box, boot etc and it was still there - sounded like it was coming from the front end somewhere but not sure, also it wasn't speed related (pitch, frequency etc). :headhurt:

Had the car up on all four wheels, tugged and tapped every available bit of suspension, hub, steering exhaust, roll bar, hanger bars, brakes - checked wheel nut torques.....you name it......I even had the the engine cover off, checked all the lights front and back inc. covers, IC and rad. mounts etc etc etc

Still baffled  - anyhow my mate who runs a garage is going to have a go and see how he gets on but I'm stumped. None of the major mechanicals seem to be at fault and it drives fine (it does mostly motorway anyhow). Anyone else had this kind of thing?

Unfortunately I have only one observation to make on all these cars - ie Fabia>Polo 9N > Ibiza 6K - if you have not heard my acid tongued view before here it is - THEY ARE ALL SKODAS WHERE IT COUNTS MOST. Hopefully like me, you would never have considered buying a Skoda - unfortunately we all just have. All these suspension/body related problems stem from the fact that Skoda was responsible for that area of work - and when you check the origins of lots of these parts you will find that they are made in "Skodaville".

I went and got a healthcheck done, they reported knocking noise on full lock over bumps and turns out the wishbone bushes are shot... I was oblivious to this so it can't be that bad on mine, but they said it can be fixed under warranty.

The Skoda I had a while ago had much better build quality than the Ibiza I have now

Tell me about it, FR3000.

My Ibiza's chassis has become very chatty of late. It started out with dull clopping which seemed to be coming from both ends of the vehicle (but perhaps more to the front). It's now progressed to mild, muffled clanging (ARB?) and it creaks and groans something rotten when the steering is on full lock --- particularly on an uneven surface. Dunno what's causing it, I've put my hand up under and tugged around but nothing seems loose. It's just done 10,000 miles. On the other hand, my parents' 9N1 Polo (52 reg, appears to have solid f.w.r. bushes) has done 56,000 miles, as far as I know is still with its original suspension, and is on the whole very quiet.

Gonna have the chassis checked out especially when it goes in for service later this month (at a different garage...) because the rattles are just embarrassing.
