Hello. Mate of mine has sold his 210BHP Series 1 RS Turbo for something less rot-prone. He's gotten £3800 for it in Fast Ford and he's chuffed.

After hearing me drone on for hours about the Leon Cupra he's decided to take a look at the Ibizas and Leons a little more closely.

Hes located and Onvi yello at 90,000 miles 2003 Cupra about 20 miles from SW (London). Problem is, he's scared of the high-mileage and wants to make sure he's not getting into something that may come back to bite him ... in the WALLET! :O

I've given him what advice I can, regarding regular service receipts and whether or not the car LOOKS like its done 90k or not.. but that's all I can offer.

Is a 2003 90k best avoided or is it viable if accompanied with FSH? The car is £5200 and I think it's Facelift.

Ta guys. He'll be signing up on SC.net tonight, so I assume he'll say his two-cents in this thread at some point.

:)

The car is good for much more than that, IF and only IF it's been looked after correctly.

By looked after, I mean serviced properly and regularly with extra oil changes ideally. Having any repairs done straight away and not leaving things. Warmed up and cooled down correctly. Driven with a little respect.

If all the above are true, forget about the mileage. I'd rather have a 100k mile car that's been looked after than a 50k mile car that's been mistreated.

Depends on the previous owner if he/she/they have looked after it well with (as you say) regular servicing. A few people on here have high mileage on their leon's...

Don't discount that one yet, but still keep an eye out if anyothers come to light!

Ah good. He'll be pleased then. We've been used to a different ball-game. CVH and Zetecs do feel the heat after about 80k. Although they can go on chugging long after, the same with the VAG lumps.. I'd still trust the VW group for a more solid engine.

Ta guys. Good info.

its not hard to hit 90k if you do long trips to and from work etc
it wouldnt put me off
just check all history that the services have all been done incl cambelt, water pump etc etc

I think the specifics are going to need to be checked if and when he decides to go view the car. Hopefully the service-history is complete and he's found himself a nice deal.

Ta again blokes.

Mine's an Ovni 52 face-lifted LC, done 98K and had no "major" problems, has FSH at Seat dealership and mates has 147K with FSH (51 pre-facelift) and both still going strong.

Both been ragged with the occasional motorway meet up on the drive to work  , but IMO would say mileage up 150K not an issue
