thats good to hear boys, thanks for sharing. gives me hope yet that the economy will get better
we're getting about the 300 miles mark per tank which was about what i was expecting, but putting that down to running in a fairly new car. the wifes only done 1000 odd miles so far. best ive been able to get is so far 34mpg on a motorway trip (and that was hard work!)

I do a regular commute (3 days a week) from Staffordshire to Cheltenham & back again.

75 miles, and I always get better economy (between 2 and 3mpg) on the way to Chelt than on the way back home. Must be salightly more downhill.. or else I'm in more of a rush to get home than I am to get to Uni! .

I sense a petrol vs diesel arguement brewing....

Simple answer is what would you prefer to have out of the two if running costs weren't an issue?! (although clearly if you were in that position you'd be able to afford a Ferrari or Aston Martin etc)

My FR TDI was £16,200.. im sure there isn't £1k in it

And thats my point! I think nearly every one would prefer a petrol just for the racey feel off the lights etc but common sense kicks in and comprises are made to suit our financial situations! (preparing to get kicked for this comment)

I wish i had a decent car when I was a student....and free fuel - now you are just showing off!

I used to have a Golf 2.0 GT TDI and I can safely say that I am very happy that I no longer have to wear the medical examiners glove when filling up...

I was always on the look out for a sign that said "I Love Tractors" for the back window but sadly never found one!

Average 34 mpg Are you only driving the M1 and avoiding any sort of traffic. I drive mostly urban but also a little motorway and I average 26.6mpg over my first 1700 miles in my cupra.

I did a 40 mile motorway trip today and managed 42 mpg, only just brought my 200 mile average above 30 mpg though....

I took the back way into brum yesterday due to "an issue" on the M42, gave it some & enjoyed myself, average mpg 35mpg


Today cruised in via the M42/M6, got an average of 52.5mpg


I'm not too bothered anymore, its never going to give the MPG that my mk4 gave, & the leon handles better on the bendy bits, so lets have fun

mmmmm, Im actually getting approx 32mpg in my 07 3k mile FR TDi, and the MFD says average overall is 37mpg!

Either i drive it to hard or its got a problem....?

We get about 30.5 mpg thats the average. Managed up to 36mpg yesterday from Dundee to Aberdeen 72mph cruise control. The problem is when you use cruise control you notice how everyone else changes speed so much. Let me tell you the air is blue when someone in their 1litre corsa tries to box you in. Saying that I do usually 'teach them' in that situation lol Think we get about 400 miles to a tank. I think the fuel economy is fine for such a great car even my Lupo GTI is the same and it's only a 1.6! Very happy

I picked up my 2.0 TDI Sport last night after spending two days in a Petrol FR with the DSG controls and I have to say that the FR was brilliant to drive, loads of power but ffs its thirsty! I got two trips of 50 miles out of 1/2 a tank (on the guage at least) of fuel, the computer showed an average of 27mpg and most of that was motorway cruising! The drive in this morning in my new TDI was less warp speed than the FR but i got an average of 52 mpg!!! Thats why i bought the TDI and not the petrol and to be honest it is a quick car anyway if you want to drive it like that! I have come from a 160 BHP 16V Ibiza Cupra and I am in no way underwhelmed by the new diesel.
