312mm Brake Conversion

Muddy,
can the 312's be bought from Seat direct, are they the Cupra disks?

Did you use the original calipers? They look very similar to the ones on my 130 sport.

You can use your original calipers with 312mm discs and pads, and carriers from an S3/TT/Leon Cupra/Golf Anniversary/Octavia vRS/etc.

There's a set on eBay at the moment. I won an S3 setup this morning, just need to get some pads for them.

No I used different calipers, fairly certain they wouldn't fit the new carriers I put on...although I didn't put them side by side, from what I remember the carrier-to-caliper bolt arrangement was different...?

Thought so - here's a couple of photos showing that my Ibiza calipers/carriers are completely different to the S3 ones ???

Ahhh, the plot thickens.

The MK4 Golf 1.8T boys use their existing calipers on Golf Anniversary carriers and get 312mm.

Must be more than one type of caliper in circulation then...so the upgrade is possible under 16" Sport wheels (obviously!) but only if you get the right calipers.

Tom, Did you have S3 Calipers under your silver Ibiza, and if so, did they fit without catching on your standard 16's?

I know there are photos about showing your car with the 16's and 312s, but did you drive it with em on, with no catching? If so, this would explain that the issue is one of caliper difference, which if it is, I wish I would have known about when I upgraded years ago, because I would rather have the set up without having to use spacers, even if they are only little 5mm ones. :(

I never drove my car with 312s and 16s on. I just stuck the wheel on so I could do a picture.

My S3 setup is arriving soon, we'll see if they fit.

The vRS has 38mm offset wheels, whereas the Ibiza has 43, so the Ibiza ones sit futher in the arch and have more chance of hitting the caliper.

I couldn't say. I thought they were all the same! Obviously not.

Yes they're fine as that's what I have on mine. Paid a lot less than £235 for them though...

I'm sticking with standard wheels for the time being.

The Golf boys get Anniversary carriers, 312mm discs and suitable pads. They keep their existing calipers and all is well.

That's the same as the Leon TDI Sport/FR guys have to do as the calipers are the same just need new carriers to allow the calipers to sit over the discs correctly.

With regard to your question Orangesprout you will need carriers, calipers, discs & pads for fitment on your Mk4 Ibiza TDI Sport. I would think the TT setup you mention should fit but I don't think anybody in light of this thread will put their hand on their heart and say YES so you may have to suck it and see I am afraid.

Mine aren't going to be done for a few weeks yet, especially as I am going away for 10 days.

I'd just say go for it and invest in some spacers if the worst comes to the worst. Halfords sell basic spacers to keep you on the road.
