Looks like a good idea this. It'll be the same for an Ibiza cupra won't it? Sounds like I'm asking a daft question but best to be safe than sorry. As above really what was the damage as I might have to do the same. I get hesitation on acceleration so assuming its coil pack time :(

I've done this on mine, my plugs are gapped to 0.035. Mine runs so smooth on idle, I agree with everything that was said in that post:

"the acceleration in low ranges seemed a bit smoother. I could really tell the difference when I got on it and the RPMs climbed. The engine seemed to pull harder and felt much more responsive, with a smoother power feel."

All i need to do now is pull my finger out and do some logs to see what CF I'm running now. Think I'm going to wait now though untill I get my new FMIC ;)

They look like the coils i brought from awesome for my LCR which were a direct replacement for the originals...?

Do it before the fmic so you can get a proper comparison

Internally the 2.0T coilpacks are identical to the latest 1.8T ones. Save some cash, don't bother with the adaptors and just get new, latest revision 1.8T packs.

I found these still me hit and miss and still suffer with failure and so have a lot of other 1.8t drivers thats why i dont down this route.

Your right mate but they do make a difference and IMO are worth it. Info from INA:

Why is the adapter plate needed??

The OEM 2.0T Coils are approx 14mm taller than the 1.8T units. In order to have a seal that allows some form of security with the valve cover, the coil pack requires an adapter plate.

What are the PART #'s ?

Am I missing something? They're selling black coil packs each for £34.79 inc vat..........but four red ones for £71.99 inc vat?! :blink:

And surely those adaptor plates could be made/sourced for less than £65.99? I'm loving that yellow rocker cover though [B)]

Not sure if I'd shell out £138 for it all (unless my packs start going!!) Are we definitely sure its not just a placebo thing? Surely if 2 items are identical inside, then just because one is longer that surely doesn't make it better?

Or is it the extra length that gives it the 'hotter spark?' The spark plug gap for the 2.0T packs is 0.040 - is the same gap used for the plugs with the 1.8T packs? (I know I should know this!!) Or is it the 0.040 gap combined with the longer 2.0T packs that gives better performance?

Apologies, I'm no trying to 'poo-poo' the premise of doing this mod - I'd just like to understand it more (and that Vortex thread was looooong!!!)

I can't see how the 2.0T coils would let you run a hotter spark than a 1.8T one if they're the same thing internally. In any case, I thought it was desirable to run a colder spark on a mapped engine, not a hotter one?

I'll stick with my 1.8T packs in any case :)

They allow you to run a bigger gap on the spark plug, this makes a bigger spark = lower correction factors so more timing to be added. Also they are less prone to fail. Worth while mod when trying to really max out the K04
