Hi all,

OK I have had the Ibiza for a few months now and I am looking to find out what my options are to SAFELY get more out of the engine without sacrificing economy.

What are the limits for power and torque for engine internals and the gear box?

Are there guides on here for stage 1,2,3 etc?

I'm not looking to go crazy as I have another car which is my toy, this is my economical daily drive, but looking to squeeze a bit more out of it!

Thanks in advance! :1st:

One thing about the way you have worded this question for me is, you are concerned about fuel economy as that will effect your weekly spend, consider this, if you get one of the standard upgrades to maybe roughly 135PS, your insurance company will want some more money from you, which effects your weekly spend!

So, based on the way you have worded this question, there will not be any way to improve performance without some increase in your weekly running costs.

I'd like to improve the output of my wife's August 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110PS - but in reality, it does its job very well and the economy can be very good, I too have a sort of a toy car, mine is an Audi S4 and it is fun, hardly ever escapes from the garage as I tend to run about locally in the late 2009 Ibiza 1.4 16v 85PS.

Insurance isn't an issue as I don't get charged any extra for modifications on my car unless I add a turbo (to NA vehicles) or change the turbo on turbo vehicles :) GreenLight for the win ;)

I should probably mention that I am in my 30s and have had a LOT of highly modified cars (some well over 400bhp) over the last 10 or so years and have maximum no claims so insurance really isn't an issue on the 1.2 Ibiza lol :)

Do you know what the safe limits for boost and bhp are on the 1.2TSI? I have heard rumours that the pistons used are the same as those in the NA models and are prone to failure?

What, Greenlight okay for some mods, I'll need to try them next year for my S4 as I bought it with a Milltek exhaust already on it, and my insurer, Admiral seem to be charging my quite a bit for that mod!!!

Edit:- which NA engine did they say the pistons were also used on, I've had a look and can't find anything that lists the later 1.2TSI piston part numbers as being the same as those used in another engine?

I always use *******, Greenlight or Flux :)

The 1.2TSI - one chip company even said they no longer supply them as they have a lot go bang!

Ouch, I did not want to hear that! I wonder if that is for both the early and the later versions, as they are quite different engines.
Early engines, the chain driven ones, did seem to have some issues with some parts and not just the chain drive area.

Safely people have had there car mapped to around 135/140 with a catback. Induction tends be good a good way to go and a blow off valve. I have a 1.2 tsi 64 plate chain driven, turbo at the front and its never skipped a beat. Makes some weird noises at times but nothing that worrys me too much.

It depends on what you want but HADDU performance are now doing stage 2 turbos that can run up to 190hp on the 1.2 tsis. I am waiting for someone in the uk to try this but they seem pretty legit
