isn't 10/40 the recomended use? repsol? according to castrol the 5/30 edge would be better then the 10/40.

using a pela is all well & good, but if you ever want to do it properly the sump plug will be well & truly stuck.

since the mk2 was produced hasnt there been many new oils introduced since then so many might be better then what they recomended then?

anyway, so i take the plastic under tray off and then ease out the sump plug. could also leave the plastic undertray off so the sump dosent get too hot.

Castrol Magnatec has had a bit of a bashing, apparently it's a 'cracked' mineral oil and not a 'true' semi synthetic - whatever that means....!

Personally I've never had a problem with it, albeit on fairly short oil change intervals, 6000 miles or so.

However you can buy a good fully synthetic oil for less money than the Castrol 'Semi Synthetic' -4 litres of Fuchs Titan SuperSynth (how about that for a fancy name?!) for 17 quid in GSF
-Castrol normally costs 25 quid in Halfords!

The Fuchs oil was recommended by Opie Oils, who seem to be a fairly trusted oil supplier. They also recommended Motul as the top choice, but it's quite a lot more expensive.

i used castrol GTX 10-40 semi sythentic because its free for me at work, the oil in my ibiza gets changed every 3-5k miles, the bimma has had 4 oil changes in as many weeks as it had been standard for ages, and now the Golf is due a service..

the perk of the trade ey

if you know anyone with a welder, just get them to weld the head of a bolt to the sump plug, and then just just a spanner to undo the bolt/sump-plug combo ;)

CREZZ, best to run the engine to get the oil a bit warm to begin with.
Once you have undone the sump plug and it starts to drain leave it for a good long while to drain before removing the filter. Make sure the oil filler cap is off as this will speed up the drain process.

deposits worth worrying about, should be in your filter
