Hi i know this has popped up before,

But i am in a bit of a dilema. I was going to start a project mk2 golf, but instead i want the 1.8t in my vehicle by all means possible!

Can anyone draw up roughly what i will need for the conversion? My car at the moment is a 1.4 100bhp and i've got fed up of it!

So far i have got down:

- 1.8T from Ibiza Mk4, Mk3, Golf GTI 1.8, Audi A3
- Cupra clocks from Cupra model to suit engine
- Flywheel from 1.8t engine (hopefully this will come from same engine)
- Gearbox from 1.8t including drive train
- Hubs for said drivetrain (unless the drive train will fit my existing hubs...)
- ECU from same sourced 1.8t engine
- Raidiator from a cupra model
- Custom FMIC set with silcon or stainless intake piping + BOV

Yes, my insurance will allow this and yes i am serious as i have money saved up! And yes, i am aware that i can get a cupra model too, but i have become attached to my shell i have at the moment :).

Have a look at this: http://www.qpeng.com/conversion_guide.html

Also get yourself on edition 38 forums, the mk2 is quite a common platform to shove a 1.8t into, and lots if people there will be able to help you :)

EDIT: Sorry, thought you had a mk2 already. Best bet is to sell up and buy an FR/Cupra tbh mate. It's gonna work out cheaper

First of all good for you for wanting to do it. Much more fun and you'll really feel like you built the car (because you did hahah). I'd love to do a 1.8T conversion but funds disallow it.

A mate of mine wanted to put a Mini Cooper S engine in his Mini One. Bought an engine from breakers but it didnt come with ancillaries like Throttle body, injector rail, alternator so he sent the engine back.

So my advice would be to buy the engine and see what you need.

Expensive advice, ye you may get 'satisfaction' of doing it yourself, but tbh you want engine and brakes, and by the time all dont neatly etc you may as well sell up and get a nice cupra.

Dont get all the poverty spec grey interior etc and then start from that base and make the car your own, IMO.

And I guarantee it'll be cheaper than way too, Build off a reliable base, just stage 2 the cupra to make it your own with wheels, anything else you want to do.

Brakes seem to be enough for the conversion if i do the 150bhp 1.8t version as i am running EDC Ultimax 256 on front + 232 rear and Green Stuff Pads, so they should be enough for what i need.

The shell itself is nice and i like my current interior so i would rather perform the transplant in my current car :). I am hoping to source an engine that is complete (i.e. Engine, Loom, ECU, Gearbox, Flywheel + drivetrain, turbo, alternator) and i have seen a few on ebay for £600 so all in all not bad...

Or i can get that mk2 golf i wanted and vr6 that :p.

Edit: I wonder if its possible to convert to the tdi 130? That sounds like a more attractive solution..

If you're going to do a 1.8T conversion, at least go the whole hog and get a 225 unit out of an LCR or S3. Not much point in doing a 150/180 bhp conversion really as you could have just bought one in the first place, with the nice interior parts, brakes, bushes etc.

Well i am stuck with it for some time as im paying for it. Once i have done this conversion then i can get coilovers to improve it.

Also, will the LCR unit fit in the engine bay and work with Cupra clocks from Ibiza?
