1.6 help and advise

hi iv got a 1.6 leon and it started making a noise about 10months ago making a kind of blowing noise from the exhaust,

iv had it in at the stealers and they said thats what the 1.6 sounds like, i wasnt having that , so about a month ago iv had a cat back powerflow system put on( its amzing btw) and its still making the noise,

now do all the rest of you 1.6 boys get the same blowing noise?

i might take it back to powerflow and get them to inspect the manifold and cat for holes or seals that have gone? i know the guy at powerflow so it shouldnt cost me anything,

if not i might just have to live with it

its just really anoying me and you can really hear it alot.

please help!!!

Hi Lib,

I was filling up at the Shell garage today and a facelift 1.6 Leon with trade plates on went past, it sounded like it was blowing aswell so I would assume it's the noise they are supposed to make.

Ive got a 1.6 just wondering if you could describe it abit more in depth, blowing noise as in like a long " whine ? " or a short sharp loud noise? slightly concerned now.
Because at the moment when i accelerate theres a sort of whining noise, if its the same as the one your hearing it surely must be the norm for the 1.6.

I bet the blowing noise is the air pump, the one that helps with emissions, they make even more noise if you have a performance filter too.

Is it when ya first press the accelerator and give it a rev or is it when it all the time???

hi right its hard to explain,

if you put your foot on the accelarator it sounds like a kind of blowing like when you have a hole in your exhaust but it seems to be coming from the front of the car maybe manifold or cat,

you can also hear it if you make the engine work hard ie going 15mph in 3rd its really loud

Well I think I know what your saying anyway. Ya mine make a bit of a blowing noise but I think my 1.2 Ibiza wade a similar noise. I think its the way SEAT builds them. They sound a bit sportier than the same golf or skoda....

Mine sounds the same. Another one passed me the other day and made the same noise. Supposed to sound a bit raspier than the a Golf

Mines is very similar. Sounds terrible sometimes when accerarating with the window down but seems to ease off a bit when warmed up.

Was in for a service last week and I've also checked the system for leaks and all is well.

Seems just to be a characteristic of the 1600cc range.

Ill take a video of mine and post it up soon, May well be diffrent though been the bttc kit twin pipes? mine sounds rather sporty but going for the same as you soon , how mutch did it cost you?

Mines quite raspy at low rev's and wears of a bit higher up , Going for a full system when i find someone near me.

Put your hand over the end of the exhaust and ya'll know if its blowing or not!
