I've seen 60+ driving as economical as possible, Generally i get 32-38 around town, Motorway 42-45 and country roads 50+

Also the weather/heat has a big effect on this engine! Now the warmer air is here im seeing a 10% jump mpg than 3 or 4 months ago.

I'm getting an average of 37 with my 280 Cupra. It's possible to get 40+ with Motorway driving. The 1.4 must work be working hard to get that kind of low mpg

Week 2 of owning the 1.4 tsi and this is what I've got out of it, quite impressed as I've been stuck in traffic a lot

I achieved this over this weekend - mainly dual carriageway at 65-70mph, but there was a patch of sitting in roadworks for a good 15 mins
using just 1st and 2nd gear till I cleared it, which spoilt it a bit, but still happy with this.....

Clocked up c.1000 miles over the last 4 days in the ST which was fully laden.

A return long hop journey from one side of the country to the other and some tootling around once we got to our destination. 70% was on dual carriageways or motorway, making progress but not overly so on overnight clear runs.

46-ish mpg which I'm quite pleased with.

Had the 1.4 TSi 140 PS for 4 years. Ovwer that time its averaged a true calculated 45 mpg and on a holiday run fully loaded it will manage just over 50 mpg.

Really happy with that, had diesels that diod less.

But don't believe the dash read out. Mine says 48 mpg overall and on holiday pretend the car is doing 54 ish. Think Seat programme it to mislead owners.

I've had the 150 BHP petrol DSG since March. I do a pretty solid mix of driving types: lots of countryside around my home for general going out and shopping, I commute about 50 miles to an office when I can be bothered to go in, and I travel fairly frequently. I get around:

38-44mpg with a heavy foot on country lanes, depending on overtakes/stops, etc..
58-60mpg at around ~70mph on motorways (knock off 10mpg for anything... quicker)

I actually got 63mpg the other day on the M6 through the 50mph roadworks. She's at around 2,300 miles now. Very pleased with the results thus far. It appears to be getting better as the miles tick on, too. I don't pay attention to mileage stats when I quickly nip to the gym or petrol station and the engine hasn't warmed up.

My 1.4 TSI (not ACT) golf nearly always does 45 - 50 MPG wherever I go, either on my semi urban commute, or on long motorway trips.

I'm impressed enough with it to order a Leon 1.4 150, which should in theory do slightly better with the cylinder shutdown.

1.8 / 1.6 diesels I've had previously generally haven't done much better, and are far less pleasant to drive.

They all do it. My Citroen says 42mpg when it really means 37!

I just did a trip from Glasgow to Cambridge and back the week before last in my Leon 1.4 FR EcoTSI. The warmer weather really does help with consumption too. Trip computer figures ( mine has always seemed not too inaccurate), gave the journey time of 6:08 hrs for 378 miles, ave speed 62 mph and mpg of 57.9. Started with a full tank and still had around a third left. On the way back, got stuck in some traffic for a while but still quoted 56 mpg. I was well impressed, my previous 1.2 TSI couldn't match that but still gave over 50mpg

Did a small test:
Tried my usual night trip in London ( back from the climbing gym, around 5.5 miles, 2 hills, load of traffic lights)
Normal was getting around 36-38 mpg in Sport/Normal mode, but never more than 40. Put it into eco got 44 mpg ... i noticed it shift into neutral and just lets the car roll for free...

93,000 miles of teaching people to drive with lots of stop start, ac on permanently I've got 36 mpg using fuelly so that's the actual mpg, computer over reads mpg by around 5% That's the older CPHA 140 engine though. Lovely engine to drive though.

After 360 miles the tank is half full... impressive

Waa...if no 50mph zones, what do you sit at? 70-75mph cruise control? Assuming you are on instantaneous fuel read out...what do you see...55-60mpg on read out (if flat roads?).

Managed to hit 60.4 on my commute the other day before I hit the dual carriageway, needless to say it didn't stay there for long!! Normally average about 56-58 on way to work and 54-56 on way back which I'm pretty happy with. That's car figures not calculated though.

When the EcoTsi shut down it's 2 cylinders, in theory does this means it's running as a 700cc twin cylinder engine, hence the very good fuel economy figures? I'm guessing those who have achieved high 50s / low 60s mpg figures, I guess on cruise control at 50-70 mph speeds it's predominantly in 2 cyl mode?

That would be correct
