HI ALL

I'm.after a 1.4 tdi for stupid good mpg. I know about the old 1.4 75bhp lump. The new cars are either 70bhp
Or 80bhp with dpfs. I know about dpfs and they don't seem to go wrong
On the 1.4 lumps. What's the difference with new engines? The reason I ask is they claim far more
mpg like 15mpg more on the ecomotive. is the engine any differnt? i know the body, wheels and suspension
are different. Any advice would be great.

thanks.

When i first looked at the Ibizas I test drive the 70bhp 1.4 version. Was too slow, the 80bhp was noticably more powerful.

I had a 2007 mk4 with the 1.4 tdi 80bhp engine. Was a good engine, fairly nippy but not stupidly good on fuel (52-55mpg measured properly brim to brim. Was not an ecomotive, but i'd expect them to be a little better on fuel than the regular versions.

I upgraded to a 2008 1.9tdi 100bhp which achieves pretty much the same mpg (48-52mpg measured properly brim to brim) but is quicker and more relaxed to drive. Is more expensive to tax though (£120 vs £30).

If you want a 1.4, go for the 80hp.

They depend on what type of driving u do to what mpg u will get ie the 1.2tdi is a very small tdi engine and will pull out a good mpg if used for the purpose it was built ie there more built for city driving there low engine size and low power won't like motor way driving as much due to the engine will be doing a lot of work to stay sat at 70mph.

So if u do a lot of motor way mileage I'd go for the biggest and more powerful 1.4 80bhp tdi but if u don't do Meny motor way only odd odd trips I'd go for the 1.2 tdi for the better mpg hope this helps

I do 16 miles a day. 10 on a 50mph limit and then 6 on a 30mph limit (Swansea City). Then back home again.

4 times a year it does 100 miles on motorway to parents and back (Im happy to sit at 60mph).

1.2 TDI or 1.4TDI? Im looking at a polo if I got 1.4 as they look far nicer inside, 1.2 TDI would be a ibiza as they so much cheaper (needs lowering though)

My self id go for the 1.4 tdi due to a 1.2 would be too numb I know a clio 1.5dci 65bhp as well and it's so numb its unreal but it pulls out 60mpg all day long around town but it will be getting replaced soon with a 82bhp version on the newer model

Well i own a 1.4 tdi 80 bhp and its only a 3cylinder but being that it has some poke to it on a motorway it did 72.4 mpg driving around 70-75 mph which is good and driving aroun town it does about 55-60 mpg depends how busy it is and free road tax aswell i get 55mpg with it driving to work and thats 1 mile dualcarrige way and the rest country road so that is very good in my eyes compared to the 2006 1.6 megane petrol i had which only did 35 to work and max of 45 on the motorway which is ****
