advise please

My fuel guage is displaying 0 - nothing.

i turned off the car and it seemed to display properly see it when i put the key in. started it again and then after a few seconds it went back to 0.

did a scan with the vagcom and got :

00771 - Fuel Level Sensor (G): Open / Short Circuit to B+

so looked this up:

######
Possible Symptoms

Fuel reserve displayed value 0 (empty)

Possible Causes

Wiring between Fuel Level Sensor (G) and Instrument Cluster: Open or Short Circuit

Possible Solutions

Check wiring between Fuel Level Sensor (G) and Instrument Cluster
Check Measuring Block Value
########

Where is the fuel level sensor ?
and how do i "check the measuring block value" ?

doubt the wiring is just going to fall over randomly, so presume maybe the unit has become faulty and ill need to change it? does the tank need to be dropped and drained for this ?

or is this an easy DIY job ?

i knew something else would go, been something every 2 months so far..
lovely

thanks

Ant

duston northants
probably the sender in tank
you can get to them without taking tank out but needs to be below 3/4 full
unbolt the big plate 3 screws
then unbolt the sender/pump assy top to gain access

incidentally has started working again now.. i think something is obviously not quite tight if moving the car around has put it back in place.

excuse my ignorance, big plate 3 screws ? do i need to access this from the underside of the car, or is this somewhere under the back seats?
