I appologise in advance for starting a new thread on mpg but have just got my car and was curious about it. I've had the car just over a week and about 300 miles (not a lot i know) but have averaged about mid 20's. I'm not that bothered about this as i'm going to be doing alot of city driving...

And its really poor! i'm getting about 40 miles on £15 of petrol around town. Any suggestions as to what may be wrong? Or are all the 1.4's like this? i cant remember it being this bad when i first got it. Any help would be appreciated.

First time ever I got 41mpg average on the motorway, truly outstanding when the rest of the time I average 24 to 30. Yes it was motorway and didn't boot it, but really impressed. That was on the way to Custom Pipes for my new cat back, top blokes, good value too. It's on the ramp as I type.:D

Wondered what other peeps were getting as an mpg figure for motorway? I get approx 36-37 mpg at steady 80 (GPS 80, not indicated 80 which is about 75...). Flat m/way 4 adults, no luggage. Other have suggested this is a bit low but I think its reasonable for speed/load? 2.0 TDI remapped.

i am only getting max 48mpg on long 200 mile trips down south and that is being kind, I never go above 2500 revs and drive smoothly. It regulary drops down to below 40 in town. The car has now done over 5000 miles, so i would have thought it would be better by now. I think the 1.9tdi is better...
