what are you planning to use to stick the wing mirror covers on i thought about some double sided tape but is it going to be strong enough, maybe some no more nails!

have you recieved yours yet?

What will I be using to fit them? I don't know, I haven't decided whether I even will. I'll hold them up to the mirrors tomorrow and see how close a fit they look. If there are any gaps etc then they're not going on

Hi There Folks... Iv'e just popped over from the Racing Puma forum to say hi to Ant and others... [B)]

I refurbish the Alcon 4pot caliper for many owners over there, as they need yearly attention and are not so 'road' friendly as your nice Brembo's.... partly because the calipers do not have external 'boots' covering the pistons as the brembo's do and also, the coating on the caliper was STUPIDLY done after assembly.. [:@] which means the aluminium behind the pad guides slowly rots away...lol

anyway...

altho i see the brembo's are well coated before assembly, they are not completly rid of this problem,as the coating does still wear at vunerable places and the aluminium does still rot unfortunatly.... Ant's is not too bad actually, the one in the picture you can make out slightly, the other caliper has a little more....


once this is left to set in the aluminium becomes porous and literally CRUMBLES... I have read of a few RS Focus owners already that have had to put brembo's in the bin and buy new ones, so if your caliper's have not been FULLY dismantled and treated .... then i suggest you do so ASAP... and repeat the process every 18-24 months.. :wtf:

With the caliper properly dismantled you can clean up all the seals and pistons etc etc and make a real tidy job of it... The recoat the calipers completly is quite a big job, as the coating does not come off easily..... i wouldn't recommend shotblasting on aluminium calipers, it's just too harsh, ....glass beads is ok, but not abrasive enough to remove this coating.....

as you can see on this picture, over time, the Laquer just seperates from the coating and looks yellow....not nice.... and the red looks very 'pink'...

I will recoat the caliper using a 2k paint, with a semi-gloss finish..... it's a pretty sturdy coating and cleans up well with a simple wipe when brushed first with an acidic alloy wheel cleaner....

I'll post up some piccies of the finished product soon.... :p

just a quickie to say the calipers are looking AWESOME in their new finish...

just a pity my camera decided to pack up over the weekend, and the mrs. is very protective over hers..lol

anyway...just got to build it all back...

mm, next time i'll cap off the brake line...won't be falling for that one again....

can anyone tell me if it's possible to bleed this system properly using a suction kit rather than a pressure kit..?? Iv'e noticed others on here have only mentioned the pressure type...

iv'e always managed fine so far with my air-line vaccuum kit... :-/

also, going round all the nipples didn't make a blind bit of difference... only accessing the master cylinder last seem to restore the pedal feel, and even then it wasn't as solid as i would have liked...

I'll let you explain what you did and what's going on in the pictures. For everyone who noticed that the Brembo logo is missing, that's because we decided to use decals, which are in the post now. Also, note that these callipers have been repainted, but not lacquered (right?). Again, El Dude can explain what happened there.

I will also stick some photos of the sorry state of the old Red Stuff pads that have just come off when I take them later.

Yep that right Ant..

Iv'e used a semi gloss 2k Acrilic paint... At least with decals you can replace them and clean up the paintwork every year or two.... laquer on a caliper is always doomed to seperate from the paint...

Some of the parts were bead blasted to tidy them up...Pins, pad retaining plate, M12 bolts...bridge pipes were replaced... all bolts and screws were cleaned up and lock thread applied ...

only one pad slider rail needed re-shaping....pretty impressive.. :)

Dropped lucky on a very nice colour for the calipers... slightly deeper and 'posher' looking red imo.. ;)
