Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help me. I have recently purchased an aftermarket bluetooth kit for my MK4 Ibiza :D, the car has the Alana standard headunit in it, and i need to know what the colour coding is. If someone could tell me who has maybe fitted an aftermarket headunit with manafacturer loom, which colour cable is for the power and which on for the ground. I think it is the two slightly thicker cables but i just wanted to make sure before i start cutting them open so i can split the current to power the bluetooth kit. Also, if anyone could tell me which cable is used for muting the stereo when a phone call comes in as well that would be greatly appreciated.

Any help would be great

this isn't the case with the back of my headunit, that is what i wa expecting to see, but that cables that go into the back of the alana are completely different. Has anyone changed their headunit and noticed there are no industry standard colour cables?

Changed my alana for an alpine and it was all industry standard and just plug n play. some headunits require the red and yellow to be swapped though.

yer it gets hard wired in so that the sound comes out of the car speakers and so that it mutes the radio when a call comes in. I would much prefere this that wearing a star trek earpiece to recieve my phone calls on. :D

The sound comming from the headunit speakers is a bad thing.

From experience, the speakers in your car are not tuned for the spoken word, in order to hear properly you will need the volume up quite high. This is picked up by the mic and the person you are talking to gets that nasty echo :(

The small speaker that comes with the kit is tuned for speaking and IMO works way better

ok, i'm still very confused about what colours to tap the electricity source into though. I am going to mount the speaker that came with the kit in the car for the audio output for the phone, but i still have the problem of which cables are the correct ones to tap into for 12v supply, ground, and ignition switch oh and also mute. I will get some photos at lunch. Will post them back in an hour or so.

As Promised, Below are some pictures of the two wiring colours. Does anybody else have wiring behind their headunit the same as this?

Go and buy a cheap £5 test meter, you don't need anything fancy to measure 12v. Even a home made test lamp would do

I think most people just plug an adaptor in for a new HU and never bother to find out what's what

Right,

I have found out that

Brown & Blue is +12V Live Wire
Black & Blue is Ground Wire

Just need to find out which is the ignition wire now. The radio mute wire must be on the adapter that the steering wheel controls are on, as there is a mute button on the steering wheel. Does anybody know which wire this is?

thanks very much for the image, but this doesn't seem to be correct

The one with 20 pin connector seems to be operating the steering wheel controls, which is located nearest the top of the headunit, the one below that seems to be the speaker connectors, and the one below that is the electricity and ignition supply. Oh, this is going to take a serious amount of trial and error :(
