Changing Mk3 Leon Climate control from manual to automatic

I spotted a thread on this forum stating that with some minor coding and pin change you could replace the manual climate control with the automatic one. Does anyone have a guide on what pins need changing and the coding required?

Here is the link to the thread: https://www.seatcupra.net/forums/threads/leon-style-retrofit-digital-climate-control.455170/

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks
I'm interested as well..I'll be very happy if we would find the answer to it😉

I've found this video which seems identical to the leon setup. He however has wiring adapters, it is definitely possible though by the looks of it.

I think so as well. I have even found this kit but can't find anything for our 5f Leon ☹️

Im currently trying to do the same thing to my Leon. It seems to be plug and play except for 1 adapter. (And a temperature sensor if you want Auto to work). Also, the ‘mode button’ upgrade seems to be a completely different connector to the one that comes with the non auto climate control. Will be updating as I go along but I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing. Any help will be appreciated! 😊

Having had these capacitive-touch controls in an Arteon, I’d ask why anyone would want these stupid controls, when physical dials and buttons can’t be accidentally ‘hit’ just by looking at them!

I even asked VW if they could swap the capacitive-touch steering wheel for a Passat’s button-based wheel at a point of pure frustration, and they couldn’t…

Personally, I’d want to retrofit the dials, and get rid of VW’s current touchy-feely fetish at any opportunity!

Don’t do it, you’ll have burnt a lot of cash for crap functionality, and the worst ‘downgrade’ ever if you do!

My interest in this is just to change to the standard non capacitive automatic air con from manual even if it wasn't duel zone. There are conflicting accounts of how well this works due to differences the layout behind the dash

Ok so, managed to do it and from my testing it works!

Still need to test it more but it does direct air where it’s supposed to go. (Floor vents, front vents and windscreen vents), the temp control works great and fan speed is bang on.

However, of course dual zone does not work and that would be an absolute nightmare to get to work as I need to rip the dash apart.

Now I don’t know what coding is required but from what I’ve tested so far everything seems to working as it should, so if anyone has any suggestions on this it would be appreciated!

It’s pretty much plug and play all I had to do was purchase was the climatronic harness which I got from Ali express. (£12)

htt ps://a.aliexpress.com/_Eynv029

Plug that into the stock harness and the other end into the new climate control part.

Now from what I’ve researched you are able to get auto to work, all you need is a two temp sensors and install the pins from that into the same harness. Will update once I get onto that.

I’ve attached some pictures of the old vs new one. 🙂

Ignore the heated seats, they obviously don’t work as I don’t have them installed, light turns off after a couple seconds

Good job!

Do the centre dial power level LEDs stay on in ‘Auto’ or do they go off?

Mine stay on in auto and don’t know if they should, or the previous owner had it coded in…

And you don’t have heated seats now, but when you come to sell it, you do 🤣

Nope they turn off when I select Auto and vice versa (Once I adjust fan speed it kicks out of auto).

One thing though, once I press auto it turns everything at max.

Hope this helps!

And maybe I might be doing a heated seat retrofit in the future 😂

That looks great, is the climatronic unit just a second hand one off eBay or a Ali express unit?

Yup just a second hand one of eBay got it for around £30 just be careful when looking at pictures as the plastic on the temperature display does chip on most of them.

Unfortunately couldn’t find this exact climate control unit off Ali express.

Ah cool, that’s I how i thought the LEDs should work, thanks for confirming.

Sounds like you have a glitch in auto mode though, as it should regulate the fan speed/temp/flaps, well, for a better word, automatically.

Yeah, I haven’t wired up the temp sensors for Auto to work, will be getting onto doing that later.

I’m pretty sure it’s just a case of purchasing the harness with the sensor and installing the pins on the unit.

Good stuff, sorry, hadn’t taken into account you’d not done that bit.

looking forward to seeing how you get on!
