Car doors lock with keys inside!

Ignition key not detected is also the one when it's time to change the battery. It says bring it up to the spot, where ever that is. I get mine out of my shoulder bag on the back seat and put under the infotainment unit. Believe it's the immobiliser thingy. Generally it gives you this panic one so you think where is that. Sure the clunking isn't the immobiliser that when it arrests the steering wheel so you can't turn it. Can't say I'm an expert on immobilisers and the right spot to put that key to let the immobiliser release locking the system down... there will be people around who are.

So this lock down only happens to me when it's time to change the fod battery. Now always carry a spare battery on me. Kessy is hungry on batteries and cold weather on the battery renders you locked out or unable to lock it. They often go at the wrong time. In a ferry queue, just before you go on holiday, in supermarket car park etc minutes after you have driven there. Rip the fod open and put a spare in. Been three events like this with the Ateca and Arona. On the Arona the dual key operation one where if locked with one key it needs that key to unlock it, not the spare.

Hi Tell. Thanks for your post. In fact we eliminated battery status as a factor with my car. I've resigned myself to ensuring I take the key out every time I exit the car. Cupra haven't come up with a solution. So I don't think I'd buy another Cupra, but who knoes how many other manufactuers' cars have the same bug!

You can program behaviour which I'm sure you haven't done with coding device which will automatically lock the car as you walk away. One of those codeable function VAG built in via coding. Problem with that is it rests on the car keeping contact with the key. Duff kessy aerials will lead to it auto locking the car.

The Ateca has been reasonably good at kessy behaviour. There were early Leon4 issues, that one seemed to be sleep mode was instigated on all doors, drivers doors isn't suppose to go to sleep to save the battery. Vag had issues with VWs in the early days. Ofcourse they might have instigated issues in reworking the software and hardware on Atecas.

Your dealer needs to fault check more, failing that they will need to swap out parts till they find the issue.

Never had this problem, but because of hearing this happening to others I always keep the fob in a pocket all the time, only comes out when I lock the car.

Folding mirrors if it wasn't a one off and they aren't closing in there is a toggle on the menu (one touch enablement) but if the car battery is removed then the windows and mirrors need retraining with a button sequence... but probably not that one.

You might have had low battery on the doors not opening. As I've said the Arona doesn't take too kindly to swapping the keys. Lock with one set, open with the other hasn't worked in the past. The low battery one can strike where you have opened it but can't lock it etc.

Certainly if going on a distant trip you need to carry the spare key or battery.

Eek. No fiddling with the obdeleven app and so forth on auto locking when keys are removed. That one spells trouble.

No, as I've said before I always keep one door open if the keys are in it since I don't trust it although it's not done it yet to me. Done other things but not locked the keys in the car by itself yet.

Because of the accidental locking and unlocking with the key in your pocket when washing the car I always chuck the key on the drivers or passenger seat when washing the car, and it has never locked its self. Thankfully if it did I'm at home with spare available, and the ability to unlock using my phone.

Have had this problem myself and after some research found it can be a faulty central locking switch on the drivers door caused by water ingress, which seems to make sense as this seems to be the only way to lock the car with the key inside and without the mirrors folding in as with normal locked status. It might be helpful if it happens to someone to look from the passengerside window to see if the lock light is illuminated on the switch after it has locked itself. Hope this is of some help.
