Service interval after a service

Well I am still confused as my 12 month old VZN on 6700 miles has just had an oil service and now the dash service shows next oil service in 538 days/13800 miles, Inspection in 730 days /18700 miles which means next oil service in18 months and an Inspection in 2 years!
As I have the use of another car my annual mileage is low anyway.

Incidentally the service was £235 which included £4.95 for what I should imagine was for a teaspoonful of fluid to top up the already full reservoir!
As it was early morning I couldn`t be bothered to argue but for £235 I was was expecting a full English, tea or coffee, the Daily Express/Mail - I did get a cup of coffee!
You paid £235 for a coffee !! At least you got a service as well :D

235 is not bad for oil and oil filter change at a dealer I would say.
Audi Q3 with same engine less BHP used to cost me around 400£

My car is at 6K miles I wanted to change oil and oil filter only.
Want to leave the service interval counter as its so that I could have the recommended service interval with service plan done later when it's due.
But the dealer said you would only mess up the service interval.
I said just change oil and oil filter don't reset service counter but they wouldn't understand.
Price was 230£ well not bad compared to Audi

£230 for an oil and filter change? Bring it to Warrington, I'll do it for £200 cash. In fact i'll wash it and give you a fee coffee for the complete dealership experience for that. :)

(£70 max for parts, an hour and a half if I take my time)

🤣 Thanks for offer I wish I was near Warrington.
I would have opted the offer.
Unfortunately in Essex all the way East of Greater London.
But why are they dumb when I even said don't reset any counter and just do the oil change / filter, then I'll come back when it is due originally. Anyways I have booked it in August for oil in air intake let's see what they say.
But in August I'll be nearing probably 8k will ask them to now do the first service.

Wait till you get to the 3 year /18k point and they tell you that Brake fluid change is extra on top of the service plan 🤯and I'd you are fortunate enough to have a Haldex that will be £199 extra too🙈

Yes last Audi Q3 TFSI 45 vorsprung it was same. Got brake fluid done, transmission oil, haldex.
But that was expensive there for same engine same mechanism.😁

All down to mandated procedures as they are not allowed to think for themselves.

VW got very upset when I told them (stupidly I now know), that I had changed the engine oil and filter at the “half way” point. “you shouldn’t do that as the oil is designed to change its structure just before it is due to be replaced - and scrub all the internal surfaces!” I ended up becoming a bit sarcastic so we parted company before I became a bit more annoyed. But that was back in 2001, maybe VW has retrained its service receptionists since then, okay they think that they are more than that, but in many cases they are still just that, which is fine by me as long as they act that role.

What would you say guys if I get one of those oil extractors and do the oil and filter change myself in between.
Has anyone tried it on EA888 engine? Apparently you suck / drain oil from where dip stick is.
Would save to remove underneath protection shield to reach the sump plug.
Plus lifting the car.

Not being involved with this in any way, ie I don't currently have any cars on flexible servicing or still on a prepaid "service plan", I knew that it was the "way things are done within VW Group world", when my wife bought a new Polo in 2015 and purchased a 3 year service plan - ie that the car would get handed over new with the servicing option being set at "fixed" - if we had confirmed that this car was going to be used in a way that involved high miles/year, then it would have been handed over left set as per the factory default at that time, ie "flexible servicing", and I'd doubt that they would have tried to sell us a "service plan" which I have always considered to be a "(fixed) service plan".

As to what the Audi garage were thinking about when they sold my "bought used" 2011 Audi S4 when new, it was still set as being "variable" when I bought it used at 2.5 years and 12,500 miles - using the established VW Group way of "talking to the customer at the point of sale" to work out if "variable" or "fixed" best suited their intended use of a purchase Chauffeur-driven cars does that seem to have been done. That car, for its first 2.5 years did end up getting serviced when it had run out of time on the flexible service strategy.

It does seem to me, to make a lot of sense to have separate terms & conditions and maybe pricing for a fixed (time) term service plan covering "fixed" servicing and a fixed term (time) OR (miles) plan covering "flexible" servicing. Obviously too tricky for VW Group service points to work with.

One size fits all?
great

I was thinking of this too, now my whole YouTube feed is of people using oil extractors 😂

I do wonder if it’s safe to use on the EA888.

My personal issue with doing this is, in the commercial car workshop environment, H&S can force this approach on the workshop staff, but in some cases VW Group do not recommend using this method to remove the engine oil and normally were it is allowed, the final volume of oil needs removing by removing the sump plug - and these workshops will also be lifting the car up in the air and going through an extensive visual/physical check list of the under carriage components.

Most DIYers that plan on using the suction method, might consider that they will also examine lots of other things (which they will not be able to access while the car is planted down on the ground) - so "a service" will just become "an oil and filter change" - which is not really good enough.

I'll admit that I did eventually buy a suction oil removal kit, tried using it once on my older daughter's 2009 SEAT Ibiza 1.4 16V - gave up on that after maybe 30 minutes, I had planned only to use it to do the dirty oil removal prior to lifting the car up to perform all the other important tasks.

Just my thoughts that is all, probably quite handy for handling and collecting used engine oil in a commercial workshop where volumes of cars is quite high, also I'm probably surprised that all car makers had not by now designed all engines in a way that allowed for suction only removal for engine oil.

If that thing works the way it's shown, flawlessly.
Then in between services it would be good to do.
But disposing the oil properly is another headache if you do that.
Some Recycling centre accept some dont.
It's only in UK I have seen those long oil change intervals.
In US it's still old school oil change intervals for most of the brands.
