Hi, I'm trying to change the oil on a MK1 Leon, used 17mm hex on the side, is this the drain or fill bit? Confused where to empty and fill

Drain at the bottom, fill at the front(when the car is set at level, as soon as the fluid runs out the opening, it is filled to the required level)

I can't find a hex 17mm at the bottom though, picture below of the bottom, can only find the one on the side where I've removed the bolt

Get the new oil from VW / Seat..
These gearboxes are very fussy with their oil.
At least mine was.

Just throw in the oil approved for this gearbox, the oil in the box is 20 years old, any fresh oil that meets the specs will be better then the old junk.
Any SEA 75w will do, meeting specs API GL-4/GL-5/MT-1

I've got the recommend one from Halfords, what happened to yours then?
Used a gearbox oil from Gulf, that specifically listed my gearbox.
It snagged,, baulked, popped out of gear,
Just horrible.
Put the Dealer fluid in and absolutely sweet as could be.
I was really surprised as I usually put something of good quality in & never go the Dealer route for fluids.
This was about the only instance that Dealer won out.

Fuchs Sintofluid also worked perfectly.

Gearbox Oil TITAN SINTOFLUID FE SAE 75W

Gearbox oil TL 726 /Y g052171a2?
