Afternoon All,

Just a quick one for anyone who has a Formentor and 2 children (with pram and car seats), if no one answers then my question is pretty obvious haha. Is it possible to have twins (currently 9 weeks old) and live with a Formentor? I would like to stay in the fold for my next car but twin girls and a wife who doesn't like massive cars leads me to this as a first option. We've got a side by side pram and x2 360 swivel baby seats that fit in my MK3 Leon Estate with ease along with 3 shopping bags and 2 bassinets whilst the babies are small (wife doesn't want an estate as a joint car now I can work from home most days).

In this day and age with my SEAT Leon Cupra 300 ST I rarely get to use it to it's full potential so would only get the 150 TSI V2 spec I think, I guess it's all down to space, an amount of litres is great but it's hard to tell which way that space can be usable. I guess if not the Formentor then the Ateca is next but it's not my 1st choice.

Any thoughts etc would be helpful

Cheers

I'm not sure how helpful this will be, you have some demanding requirements but I have two small kids. We manage to make it work. My wife has a similar "I don't like big cars" attitude so she accepts some compromises in regards to space.

Both kids have a child seat, one 360 and one normal (but both would fit). It means that the back seats are completely taken. I mean theoretically someone can sit between the two child seats, my wife does that sometimes but it is quite a tight fit, slightly uncomfortable and probably not great for anyone above 1.7m (my wife is that tall). It may improve when we switch over to two normal child seats but I am not sure.

In regards to the boot - we managed to fit our stroller (rather bulky one) but it was not great in that regards. The boot is not that deep and we had to make some compromises in regards to packing. I would suggest you make sure it fits.

If you are coming from ST 300, I suggest you go for VZ310. The boot size is almost the same as 1.5 versions (420 vs 450) but you will get a lot of fun out of it.

2 adults, 2 kids and a giant (65kg) mastiff. Formentor works. We dont need a stroller anymore, but something like the McLaren would fit fine.

By way of back seat, only a very small person would fit in between the two kids.

Thanks for your reply and all your information, it sounds like the back seats will be fine, I assumed that the middle seat would be a no go unless we went for a bigger car like the tarraco etc my wife currently has a fiesta so we're also looking at the Puma but both know that neither car maybe big enough and then it's the Ateca and Kuga to look at (loyal to a brand it seems haha)

We've got an ickle bubba side by side buggy so it's a bit of a beast in terms of footprint in the boot but it's quite flat, the wife wasn't a fan of front and back as one child is always staring at the one in front lol

As for power I don't think I'd miss it as when the children are in the car I barely accelerate past what a 1.5L could do and it would hopefully be better for the wallet haha cheers

A 65kg mastiff is probably more of a boot filler than a pram lol I'll have to measure out the pram and see what fits I think I'm sure it would lay down flat but it's what room we have on top of it

Yeah we're not planning on having another one so the middle seat can be storage haha

You can kiss the parcel shelf goodbye... With that gone he does have enough space to turn around and sleep etc. We are fortunate the dog travels well, but the smooth drive helps too. We did London to Edinburgh in one day ( with lots of breaks) and he was still a happy puppy at the end.

Our stroller was quite bulky and didn't really fold that well. We didn't really think that through but luckily it would fit.

If your is better in that regard it should be better, but do try it out. I would go to a dealer and test it out before ordering.

Ateca definitely bigger in the boot. Could fit the dog cage in the Ateca no problem and room left over, it was tight in the Formentor because of the roof line. The 1.5 is good enough if the power isn’t offensive to you, a little sluggish to get going but not a deal breaker for me. The Formentor was easily better quality than the Ateca but less practical, and to be fair the footprint was smaller with the Ateca IIRC.
Not sure if o helped you at all mate ;) (y)

Great help thank you, if I can get get the wife to have a go in the Ateca I'd be very happy, the formentor seemed like a happy medium that didn't involve me driving a Ford for 5+ years haha

I've driven the 1.5 formentor and I think once you know how to treat the engine it works perfectly fine for the current climate.

That's my worry, I think the Ateca may be better for the shape of the rear end making so I could maybe stand it up for space.
I had a leon and 1 pram and the pram filled the entire boot so i went for a small estate in a Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake. Much better
