Cupra Australia has issued a recall for 1439 examples of the Cupra Leon hatchback and Cupra Formentor SUV produced between 2021 and 2022, to rectify a manufacturing fault that could result in the radiator jiggling loose and in turn cause the engine to overheat.
“Due to a manufacturing issue, the radiator on some vehicles may not be properly secured. This could cause the radiator to move and may result in the loss of engine coolant,” the company said in its recall notice.

“A loss of coolant will be indicated by visual and audible warnings for low coolant. If the warnings are ignored by the driver, engine overheating and subsequent power loss can occur.”

Will this affect the UK or are Aussie examples made differently.

There’s a discussion topic on this on the ‘Cupra cars general discussion’ forum board. Link to that thread below;

It never ceases to amaze me how long have cars had a radiator fitted but VW/Seat/Cupra can`t manage it without causing problems.

I found an 11mm Blue Point combination spanner wedged between the radiator and a support bracket when cleaning down the engine compartment.

It’s because it’s not the same radiator as fitted to the Beetle. Oh, hang on a sec, it’s because they’ve not been fitting them as long?

By far the majority of Beetles manufactured didn`t have a radiator they were air cooled, besides if its correctly designed with adequate fastenings and a good quality inspection regime perhaps the radiator wouldn`t fall off!

Interestingly Daughters Cupra Leon July 2022 died Sunday spewed all its coolant and decided not to play anymore. When she pushed the SOS button AA arrived very quickly and when they lifted the bonnet the first thing he said was Your radiator is not fixed at all who changed it or have you had major front end works. The rad has not been touched well nothing has been touched except the odd top up of washers and dip of the oil. Oh and Tyres blooming potholes are lethal for the low profiles round here.
I would suggest you all look under your bonnet and check, its done loads of damage to wires hoses etc.
