I've come from an R56 Mini Cooper S that I run alongside the
Formentor. The VZ1 245 comes with adaptive dampers so in Comfort Mode the car flows with the road and deals with any potholes/undulations with ease. In Cupra mode the ride does firm up quiet a bit and you can feel a lot of the minor imperfections in the road. However, the bucket seats are extremely comfortable and have great support and hold you in place when pushing on. Haven't had much issues with traction, only have had a few instances where the wheels spin when coming out of a junction quickly when wet. However, the car has a VAQ differential on the front so quickly sorts out traction when the wheels start to slip. You can also feel the diff working when accelerating quickly into a corner- was a strange experience at first.
The engine is a real highlight of the car. It's docile and quiet when you want it to be, it can really shift the car when you want it to. I don't have any regrets not going for the 310, as the power on tap is usable and more than enough for the public roads. As you soon get to the speed limit when giving it a burst of acceleration. Also you feel that you are going slower than you actually are, as the car is refined and very stable.
MPG is something that seems to improve each tank. I've had the car for 2 months now and have done 2000 miles. At first the MPG wasn't great but after about 1500 miles it's steadily been improving. Round town I seem to get in the early 30s. Motorway it's easy to get 40+ once the engine has got to operating temperature. My commute is 25 miles each way with about 22 miles motorway and 3 miles stop/start low speed driving and I get around 45-47mpg round trip. My best so far going to work has been 52mpg that's by cruising at 65mph with no traffic. I get around 400 miles from a tank. My last full tank calculation was 40mpg which is impressive for a 2L turbo car had done 375 miles before the car asked to be refilled and still indicated 50 miles left.
