I've tried to search but to no avail, maybe it's my wording...

Anywhoo I'm trying to find out if it's possible to code a 2015 (for example) key to work on a 2002 Leon? I'm going to be buying an additional key as I only got 1 with my car. But have wondered about the options of updating to a newer style fob. I've found a local shop who can do it based off of manufacturer part numbers to clone a key. But if possible I'd rather take them 2 new keys as blanks and have the coding just swapped over to the more modern fob/remote.

I had it done on my old ep3 as it had a basic key and I found someone to upgrade it to a newer style flip key which wasn't exactly cheap, but maybe the guy seen me coming from a mile away...

Thanks in advance folks.

For those who like a rear end ;-)

I updated from the 2004 old style 2 button key to the 2 button flip key, bought it off eBay, under a tenner; something China can actually make.... Had the blank cut then put in the spare immobilizer chip from a non electronic key I had, then programmed it to open car, using orig key in the ignition sequence.

Yeah I'd say it is, I had my main key done with a 3 button as I wanted to use the boot button as well, plus I wanted a more modern key, my car is a 2004 leon.

There is even this guy who cuts a new blade based on your key's photo. That should go well.... ;)

X2 on ebay photographic key cutters.
They work fine, at least for not needing a brick to get into the car.
A "blind" key (no remote) also allows you to program an old second hand remote fob,
(Audi Seat, Skoda or VW) with your frequency, to work on your car.
Immobiliser chip is glued into the key blade bit, which you will be swapping over.

I've never used the boot button ever on mine tbf, I just double unlock, although some folks might use the boot button, I personally don't so shouldn't see much of an issue??

Thanks for the advice notes folks, much appreciated. I've seen quite a few blanks going cheap and my local cobbler/key cutting store, who'd be cutting the keys, will program immob too. I know my local Timpsons said they can't but alot of shops do.

How did you do this?
Hi bud, I just did a Google search for key upgrade, and found a bloke that could do it, it was about 100 pounds for a new key and for him to programe it into the cars system, their is plenty of people that do this just a case of finding one near yourself.

Most locksmiths use a kind of knock off Seat key which can be programmed to most cars.
I had one for my fieata and I'll get one made for my Ibiza.
Honesty I got mine done by a mobile lock smith £80 and he came out and did it in 15 minutes.
